News Release
July 28th, 2025

  • Sheriff’s Investigations Bureau Expands Confidential Informant Program & Charge Reduction Policy
  • Los Santos County: The Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department (LSSD) announces updates to its Confidential Informant (CI) Program and the new Charge Reduction Policy, offering incentives for community members who assist in solving crimes. These initiatives aim to enhance public safety by rewarding credible cooperation—financially or through reduced legal consequences.

    -
How the Confidential Informant Program Works

The Sheriff’s Investigations Bureau (SIB) seeks individuals with knowledge of criminal activity to assist investigations. Two tiers of cooperation are available:
    • Confidential Informants (CIs): Long-term cooperation with access to:
      • Monetary rewards (up to 25% of seized assets or fines).
      • Reduction/dismissal of eligible charges (see below).
      • Strict confidentiality protections.
    • Incident Informants: One-time tips eligible for:
      • Cash rewards (up to $50,000 for critical information).
      • Charge reductions for minor offenses.
    Charge Reduction Policy: Eligible Offenses
Individuals who provide actionable intelligence may qualify for reduced or dropped charges, including:
    • Misdemeanors: Petty theft, trespassing, drug possession, reckless driving, and more.
    • Certain Felonies: Grand theft auto, fraud, or drug sales (reduced to lesser charges).

    -
    Requirements for Charge Reduction
    To qualify, individuals must:
    • Admit guilt and cooperate fully with investigators.
    • Provide information leading to an arrest, search warrant, or major case progress.
    • Not be involved in violent crimes, serious felonies, or obstruction of justice.

Commander John Kemp wrote:"These programs empower our community to stand with law enforcement. Whether you’re seeking a second chance or want to help combat crime, your cooperation can make Los Santos safer—and we ensure it’s worth your while."
A Message from Assistant Sheriff Oscar Black, Director of the Sheriff’s Investigations Bureau
Assistant Sheriff Oscar Black wrote:"At the Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department, we believe that real safety comes from real cooperation. That’s why we’re enhancing our Confidential Informant Program and introducing a new Charge Reduction Policy to give community members the chance to step up, speak out, and be rewarded for it.

Whether you're seeking a second chance or simply want to help bring justice to your neighbourhood, your information could be the key to solving major crimes. From cash rewards to reduced charges, we’re making sure your cooperation doesn’t go unnoticed—and never goes unprotected."
