  • Through our progression as a faction, we have received occasional requests pertaining to joining the faction as a text-only player. Although we maintain the position that Eclipse Roleplay is a VOIP-roleplay server and that the LSSD is, by extension, a VOIP-roleplay faction, we understand that there are circumstances in which players cannot use VOIP. To make our guidelines for joining the faction as a text-only roleplayer clear, we have created this informative post with all the relevant information.

  • Pre-existing Medical Condition: Players applying for permission to join the faction as a text-only roleplayer must have a pre-existing medical condition that extensively inhibits their ability to communicate verbally.
  • Status in the Community: The LSSD must not be your first government faction on the server. You must have spent sufficient time in another government faction (Such as Bayview, Benny's, SAGOV, LSEMS, LSPD, SADOC, DCC). During your application process, we will reach out to the faction to get an OOC reference letter and determine if your time and activity were sufficient.
  • Formal Application Requirement: Text-only players are not eligible for walk-in recruitment. To be considered for admission into the LSSD faction, a text-only player must first receive approval by the LSSD Executive Staff team to apply normally, and then they must be processed through the standard application process.

  • Without being able to use VOIP, these are the "restrictions" that we impose:
    • You cannot become a Field Supervisor (Corporal / Investigator (SiT), Sergeant)
    • When you are on patrol, you should try to be partnered when possible, especially if engaging in pursuits. If not possible at the time, you should try your best to provide whatever you can over /r until another unit can take over.
    • When placing backups, you should attempt to use /backup [TEXT] as opposed to using the hotkey for backups, as that is normally followed by a radio VOIP call of why it is placed.
    • Joining divisions is entirely up to Divisional Command; some divisions are more VOIP-based than others, such as the Special Enforcement Division, whereas others are more administratively based.
    • You are not restricted from becoming a Field Training Deputy, but as your ability to train could be diminished by your lack of VOIP usage, this is not a privilege we can guarantee you. If only the best can get into FTD as a VOIP-roleplayer, then the standard is even higher for text-roleplayers.
    • You are not guaranteed admission into the faction as a text-based roleplayer just due to the fact that you have a condition. A great deal of trust must be built for us to admit you into the faction on these guidelines, so generally the more sure that we can be that you have a legitimate medical reason to require text-only permissions, the more likely you are to be accepted. As well, the better your general standing in the community, the more likely you are to be accepted.

  • Text-roleplay only applicants must receive a special authorization from the faction's leadership before they can be considered for an application to the faction. Before submitting an application in the Job Opportunities section, you must draft an OOC forum PM to the LSSD Executive Staff Team (Assistant Sheriff and above, as identified by the "The Team" section on the forums) requesting approval to apply to the faction as a text-only roleplayer.

In your application, you should include how you have met the requirements and how you have shown your standing in the community. Although we do not require specifics of your medical condition, the more sure we can be that you are being truthful, the more likely you are to have your request granted.
