Undersheriff John Wallace
McCornish has been a pillar of this department. I remember promoting him to Assistant Sheriff because I believed in him. I believed in his dedication as a deputy, his integrity as a person, and his loyalty as a friend.
While it is not easy to see him step away, I fully support his decision. He has made a lasting contribution to this department, and his choice reflects the same strength and thoughtfulness that have always guided his actions. We all reach a point when it is time to make way for the next generation, and this is one of those meaningful moments.
McCornish leaves behind a legacy that will be felt for years to come. I hope his successor continues the development of our Countywide Services with the same commitment and vision, honoring the work McCornish has done and the future he helped shape.

Jon McCornish is not just a colleague, he's a brother to me. We've weathered countless storms together, from the early days of building up the Special Enforcement Bureau and the Air Support Division into what they are today, to every challenge in between. Sure, we've had our fair share of 'discussions', anyone who knows us knows that, but even when we were locked in debate, there was always an underlying respect and a shared commitment to getting the job done right. And at the end of the day, that professional sparring never overshadowed the deep friendship we've built over these many years. Congratulations on your retirement, Jon. It's been an honor, and a privilege, to serve alongside you, my friend.
Captain Victoria McJohnson
To know Jon was to know a great friend.
I have known Jon my entire career. I waited with him while he waited for his SD interview and even bought a house with him when we first got off the bus years ago. We didn't just grow together as co-workers, but we grew together as people. While a lot of our talks consisted of work, they often veered to person talks, he would always make sure you were doing ok - that is the type of person Jon is, he just took care of you.
While Jon was a large part of this department and the driving force behind SED, I am motivated to work along the people of Countywide to continue Jon's legacy and vision.
Jon, you're a great leader, but an even better friend. We will miss you, but we know you will not be a stranger. Hoo rah.
Conclusion
Jon was the reason I joined this department, and the reason I stayed for so long.
It was one of my greatest privileges to work under him during our time in County-Wide. I would have wished for that to continue, but at his great age, retirement may be the wiser choice. I’ve never had the chance to work with someone who showed such unwavering commitment to his role and such deep respect for the badge.
For over three years, he led us through revamps, rebrandings, improvements, and additions to SED, all with the singular purpose of bringing it to its final form, which we are weeks away from achieving it. He made it his mission to ensure we adapted to every change in the city, that our Operators remained motivated, sharp, and in top form. He guided us through every stage of change, through both the hard days and the triumphant ones, always with the well-being of this department as his highest priority.
Today, we are losing more than just an undersheriff; we are losing a great friend and leader. Myself and the rest of Countywide will make sure his work doesn't go to waste and we will carry forward the way he taught us.
As Assistant Sheriff Jon McCornish embarks on a well-deserved retirement, the Los Santos Sheriff's Department expresses its deepest gratitude for his unwavering dedication and impact. Since January 2nd, 2020, Assistant Sheriff McCornish has exemplified the highest standards of service, shaping our Countywide Operations and, most notably, the Special Enforcement Detail. His legacy, built on a relentless pursuit of excellence and a genuine care for those he served alongside, will resonate within our ranks for generations to come. While we will undoubtedly miss his leadership and his steadfast presence, we celebrate his remarkable career and wish him a future filled with peace and fulfillment. He leaves behind not just a distinguished record but a profound inspiration for us all.
