Los Santos County Sheriff's Department
"A TRADITION OF SERVICE"
News Release
April 15th, 2025

  • FROM THE COMMUNITY TO THE BADGE: 22 LOCALS JOIN THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
  • Blaine County: On Saturday the 6th of April, the Sheriff's Department hosted a walk-in interview event, a collaboration between the Recruitment and Employment Division and the Sheriff's Information Division.

    Even before start, a large line outside Paleto Station had formed, and deputies were tasked to search each individual before entering the area, check their ID and conduct background checks. Once cleared, the individuals were invited to the back lot of Paleto Station where a team of recruiters and interviewers stood ready to conduct the actual recruitment interview and physical tests. The applicants were tested on their law enforcement knowledge, physical and psychological fitness. Out of 25 applicants, 22 of them were offered a spot at the Sheriff's Department Academy hosted the day after.

    Commanding Officer of the Recruitment and Employment Division, Lieutenant Trent Williams;
    I personally think that the event was a great success. I think its success was based solely on the great deputies that showed up to help facilitate and run it, without them, it absolutely could not have happened. We certainly plan to host more in the future, hopefully one every one to two months. In the future we hope to have our RED workspace renovated and start conducting the walk in interviews in offices and not in tents.

    Planning and organizing takes a lot of preparations. It has a lot of coordinating actions, with several groups assigned several tasks. First RED has to reach out to RED to plan and agree on a date for the event. We then have to discuss and execute advertising. Next RED Command has to reach out to application handlers to ensure we have enough staff to facilitate interviews, then reach out to field staff to ensure we have enough deputies facilitating all other portions of the event. There is so much more to it than that, but that's the general basis of the preparation required to run walk in events.

    Applicant, Now Deputy Sheriff Trainee Baxter Jones;
    How did you find the event?
    I did, it was a fascinating experience. Right now I'm working at DOC and I want to make the transfer from DOC to here.

    Why would you like to join Sheriff's Department?
    I just want to test out more things, explore more than four walls. I love working at the DOC actually helping people there and everything, simply put I just want to explore more what I can do personally, and I think SD is going to be the best fit for that

    How would you rate your experience with the Walk-In Interview?
    Deputy Dylan was really nice. I did my physical, everything went well, and I hope I will receive an email with the job offer.

    Was the physical part of the interview hard for you?
    As I said, I work for DOC and the physical part was not hard for me. I am quite used to run after people.
