Traits & Motivations
Please provide a short biography about yourself (minimum 100 words):
My name is Leo Alexander and I was born on 17th June 1996. I grew up in a small town named Marfa with my parents and younger brother Bryce. We are a tight-knit family who always looks out for each other. My mom is the backbone of our family, always looking out for us and making sure me and my brother were well taken care of and getting the education and life she never had. She stayed at home while my dad worked long nights at the department. My brother and I were home-schooled by my Mother. She would always reassure us that my dad would come home safe even though some nights his life was in danger. My father was a Police Officer just like my grandfather was. Growing up my grandfather would tell me a lot of stories about his hard days fighting crime on the streets. He once told me a story about how he was held at gunpoint by a couple of bank robbers and all he thought about was getting back home to his son, my father. That story changed my whole outlook on life. It made me realize that family and protecting the people you love and care about are the only things that matter in life. Ever since that day, my only goal was to become the strongest version of myself by working out my hardest to be able to withstand any hardships or issues life throws my way. Eventually getting into one of the best criminal justice programs in Marfa helped me fulfill my dreams of learning more about our justice system and being able to understand what it takes to serve and protect others.
I will try to use all of my energy and time I get into SADOC.
I want to work as a correctional officer because I like to bring justice to people and I'm passionate about rehabilitating offenders. I feel they deserve another opportunity to turn their lives around, and I'm eager to put my skills and experience to good use. I'm always happy when I see offenders come out of correctional facilities as changed people. My attitude is I’m there to help everyone complete their time and get out of there in one piece and, hopefully, as a better person for the experience. A correctional officer's job comes with unique challenges, and I believe every officer must be resilient and self-disciplined. Physical agility, strength and fitness are key requirements. I also believe correctional officers need to know how to identify unusual activities, patterns and behavioral cues and I have those skills.
I handle pressure and stress by staying positive, using stress as a motivator, accepting what you can't control and practicing relaxation methods, like yoga or meditation.
I am a very good communicator because good verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills are essential in order to deliver and understand information quickly and accurately. Being a good communicator involves being able to communicate important details, information, ideas, and challenges effectively. I always help others when they are in need. I am self motivated because I take the initiative to do something that needs to be done without being asked to do it. Working beyond the call of duty in order to meet goals or solve problems.
