I want to help people. I believe I can provide discipline and stability to people whose lives have neither. I want to serve as a role model and educator. I want to help reduce recidivism by matching offenders with programs that can address their needs and minimize their risk of re-offending. I know face challenges every day, whether from disruptive prisoners or gang violence inside the prison walls and this gives me the reason I am interested in SADOC.
I try to react to situations rather than to stress. That way, I can handle the situation without becoming overly stressed. For example, when I deal with an unsatisfied inmate, rather than focusing on feeling stressed, I focus on the task at hand. I believe my ability to communicate effectively with inmates during these moments helps reduce my own stress. I think it also reduces any stress the inmates may feel.
I work at Bayview and at this time I usually am able to put in 15-20 hours a week. I would hope I could give you at least half of that if now more. The amount of energy I will put forth would be 110%. I am an active person so I am usually full of energy.
My most valuable trait I possess that can benefit the SADOC is my communication skills. I am the type who is extremely thorough when writing emails or letters? When I relay a story, I take special care to ensure I don’t leave out any important details, painting as vivid and accurate a picture of what happened as possible. Proficient communication skills can be more than just helpful as a police officer—they can be vital. When you write a report, your specific wording can be the difference between something usable in court and something that gets thrown out. I also feel another trait that I possess is compassion and empathy. Much of an officer’s work requires the ability to relate to those going through incredible hardships, showing compassion while remaining professional as you will find yourself inserted into the most tragic and chaotic moments of people’s lives.
Kai, born Kai McGregor, had grown up the eldest of two children. It was a four-person household, him, his mother, his father, and his younger sister. His father ran a successful farm in Walnut Creek Ohio. This allowed Kai to become the man he is today, a hard worker full of integrity and compassion. He would usually work from sun up to sun down up until one day his father came to him and told Kai that he wanted more for his son. He wanted his son to go off to college and get a degree of some kind. Kai headed off to college, study hard and came out with a criminology degree. This allowed him to join the local Sheriff department as a deputy. He works about six months before his father came ill and he had to go back and take care of the farm. with his father out of the picture, he knew the wolves would be out doing everything they could to get his father's land. Kai and his mother agreed to sell the farm and everything with it because once again Kai was in a familiar place with his mother falling ill and moving on.
Kai was someone with a huge variety of skills that he never got to use to there full potential. Before he took to a life he has today the only thing he knew back in his hometown was farming. He would never again get involved with his local Sheriffs Department not because he did not want to but when he was farming he felt he was closest to his family. Plant seeds and watch them grow. It was easy and most probably the only thing he could do right. He often worked on someone else's farm, earning little pay for the amount of work that was done. Kai started spending late evenings with a crew in his hometown. This crew was not like the crews you hear about this crew was a crew that made Kai a better man, they encouraged him to leave Walnut Creek and go see the world. That would eventually lead him down a path of today.
I feel I should be selected to work for SADOC because I can offer abilities that are often overlooked that distinguish an average officer from a great one. I do come to you with some background in law enforcement. I believe I am the best fit for the job because I have the experience you are looking for. With that being said- I also have a proven track record of going above and beyond my normal job description when the opportunity arises. I have long dreamt of helping others by serving the community and keeping dangerous criminals off of the street.
I worked for Walnut Creek Sheriff Dept.
