2. REQUEST INFORMATION
  • Detailed information of your request:
    • Previously I made a request in regards to age requirements in which Chief Elena Flores replied;
      Pursuant to the general stance regarding age discrimination in workplaces across the United States, the Los Santos Police Department does not have a maximum age or an age at which point employees are forced into retirement, though typically the service retirement plans/police pension become available after 20 years of service and surpassing the age of 50, which in this specific provided example may be difficult, but not impossible.
      Though yesterday an application was rejected for the reason; "The LSPD requires all applicants be under the age of 45."
      My question is, is this now a requirement for all applicants, is 'Age Discrimination' something you no-longer care about? and why hasn't this been updated on the application requirements.

    Thank you for submitting this inquiry.

    In June of this year, the Recruitment & Employment Division, in consultation with LSPD's Staff Officers, undertook a comprehensive review of the department's recruitment policies, including age considerations. This review aimed to maintain a balanced approach that reflects both the physical demands of modern policing and the department’s commitment to inclusivity and fairness.

    As part of this review, a soft age guideline of 45 was introduced. This is not a hard restriction, nor does it serve as a disqualifier for individuals above that age. Instead, it represents a benchmark to help evaluate candidates who may require additional assessment to ensure they meet the physical and operational requirements of police work, which can be demanding regardless of age.

    Applicants over the age of 45 are given the same opportunity to demonstrate their suitability as any other candidate. However, they may be subject to enhanced physical and medical evaluations, tailored to ensure that they are equipped to handle the unique challenges of the role safely and effectively. This approach is designed to uphold public safety while also ensuring that all candidates are assessed equitably based on their capabilities, experience, and overall fitness for the job.

Captain Luigi,

You state this as a ‘soft requirement’ yet in the example i linked for Mr Barnabus Siegl, he was denied outright for his age. Is this a mistake on the part of the recruitment officer? otherwise, your statement stating that;
This is not a hard restriction, nor does it serve as a disqualifier for individuals above that age.
doesn’t hold up. Either way I appreciate your response.

    Thank you for the followup inquiry.

    The response provided on the highlighted application was indeed a misrepresentation of the soft requirement introduced in June. Prior to my previous response, the Recruitment & Employment Division clarified the correct application of this policy to all divisional members to prevent similar errors in the future
