- 190322: Abolishment of Firearms Safety Courses
The Los Santos Police Department's Firearms Licensing Division, in recent months, had introduced Firearms Safety Courses in which civilians wishing to obtain a firearms license were required to partake in order to proceed further. In theory, the courses hosted by the Firearms Licensing Division were beneficial in ensuring those who were going to be in possession of a firearms license were taught proper firearm safety.
In February, the Firearms Safety Courses were suspended by the Los Santos Police Department, pending a thorough review of its impact and effectiveness. The review has since been concluded and the courses have since been abolished and formally removed from the process, reverting to the initial standard process of obtaining a firearms license through a written application.
(( While we believed that the Firearms Safety Courses made sense from an in-character perspective and provided further roleplay beyond the submitting of a request on the forums, following a review, we have found it to bottleneck a fundamental system and process of the server that otherwise operated smoothly.
We aim to provide and encourage roleplay experiences beyond what is normally done, however, we do not intend to do so at the expense of players of the server and potentially delaying their character progression due to a backlog of applications based on differing timezones and availabilities. ))
All civilians who had an application pending the attendance of a safety course have had their application processed and received their firearms license.
