MESSAGE FROM THE SHERIFF

    Sheriff Ian Walter
As we bring the month of November to a close, a month traditionally dedicated to gratitude and reflection, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to each member of our staff. Your dedication, professionalism, and service to this county continue to be the foundation of our success.

As we move into December, we enter a season marked by a wide range of holidays and traditions, including Christmas, Hanukkah, Bodhi Day, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and others celebrated by our diverse range of citizens of San Andreas. This time of year also brings colder temperatures, winter weather hazards, and an increase in travel throughout the county. Amid these seasonal changes, one thing remains constant: the unwavering commitment of the Sheriff's Department to safeguard our residents and ensure that everyone can travel our roadways safely.

The month of November was a busy one with a joint awards ceremony between the Los Santos Police Department and Los Santos County Sheriff's Department, and the statewide funeral for retired Governor Jason Castillo. November also featured many advancements of staff, adding many new faces to the command and executive staffs. While I congratulate all of those who were promoted into these higher positions, I hope these advancements also bring about a greater sense of stability within the Sheriff's Department.

In the weeks ahead, we will focus on several important initiatives:

Winter Safety Preparedness: As the weather gets cold, and a chance of snow and ice is on the horizon, your Los Santos County Sheriff's Deputies will continue to patrol our roadways, remaining alert for changing weather conditions while responding to roadway hazards, accidents, and requests for assistance.

Holiday Patrols and Community Presence: With increased traffic, and wide-scale events, visibility and proactive patrols will be seen.

With the close of November and entry into December, I am hopeful that everyone has a safe, healthy, and meaningful month of December. I look forward to celebrating the holidays with you all and continuing to serve as your Sheriff. On behalf of myself and the entire supervisory team of the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department, happy holidays!

DEPUTY OF THE MONTH
  • Image
    Deputy Sheriff Jay Alva
Deputy Sheriff Jay Alva reinstated back into the Sheriff's Department in the end of September 2025. They are an active member of the Traffic Services Detail, and an active field deputy. We are proud to announce Alva as the Deputy of the Month for November 2025 as an appreciation of their hard work and dedication.

What is your favorite thing about being a deputy at the LSSD?
My favorite part of working for the LSSD is the people within it. Working with people who are like-minded and who are willing to put their own life in danger for others is a beautiful thing. its a pleasure to clock on duty every day.

What is your most memorable moment while serving as a deputy for the LSSD?
After Hanz Waltz Will Griggs, and I took the matter into our own hands to do some community work after a huge rock slide happened on the Great Ocean Highway. No construction workers were on duty that day, so we put on our gloves, grabbed some spades, and began to clear up the highway so traffic could move again. all of us received a notice of commendation from Sheriff Ian Walter.

Was there a career setback you faced that you later realized was an advantage?
At this point i cant really say ive had any setbacks yet in my current career. I am a reinstatement, though I took a couple years off to travel and interact with alot of different people and develop myself more as a person so taking a step back for me was a good dicision

What goals do you have for your tenure within the Sheriff's Department?
My current short-term goal in SD is to become a Traffic Deputy 3 withing the Traffic Service Division and join our Field Training Division to be able to climb the ranks in the future.
On the long run, I'm still thinking about either joining SOB or SIB, but at this point, I'm taking my time to look at both positions to see which one suits me best.

What advice do you have for someone new to the department?
Try to go on Sierra patrols with as many different deputies as possible so you can experience how every individual works, and later implement it within your own daily operations. for me, the best way to learn how to become a better deputy was going on shift with higher-ranked deputies

Is there a quote that motivates you?
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

DEPUTY SPOTLIGHT
  • Image
    Detective Amir Sultan
Detective Amir Sultan graduated from the Sheriff's Department's Academy in mid January 2025. During their time in the department, they have progressed through the rank structure, became a part of bureaus such as Field Training Bureau and the Sheriff's Investigation Burau. Below, you will find an interview conducted with Detective Sultan to get to know them better!

What is your favorite thing about being a deputy at the LSSD?
My favorite thing about being a deputy at the LSSD is the ability to uphold the law while patrolling alongside my incredible colleagues. If it weren’t for these dedicated, supportive people in the department, I would have lost all motivation dealing with the crime we face daily. God bless Sheriff Kirk Walter.

What is your most memorable moment while serving as a deputy for the LSSD?
My most memorable moment has to be my very first day. Not even ten minutes into my first duty, I was taken to a shootout and ended up getting shot pretty badly. Thankfully, I recovered from the experience both physically and mentally and it became a defining moment in my career.

How has your perspective on law enforcement changed since you first joined?
Before joining, I always thought law enforcement officers in the county were cold-hearted and unapproachable. Once I became part of the LSSD, I quickly learned that they are genuine, kind people who truly want to serve and protect civilians by enforcing the law in every shape and form.

How do you hope to make a lasting impact within the LSSD?
I believe I'm well known among the deputies, and many know me as someone friendly and approachable. I hope to continue setting the right example, especially for our beloved trainees, so that one day they’ll say, “Look at Amir; that’s how you’re supposed to be.”
(Though according to Commander Thompson on scenes, it’s more like, “Trainees, did you see Amir’s actions? Yeah… don’t do that.” But I am working on it!)

What advice do you have for someone new to the department?
For the newcomers, I’d say: watch where you step and be mindful of how you carry yourself—you’re walking into the lions’ den. Never try to overshine others or ridicule their work. Instead, encourage them, tell them they did great, and you’ll be surprised how quickly people will appreciate you. In short: be kind to everyone. Karma is real.

How has serving with the LSSD shaped you as a person?
Serving in the LSSD has made me wiser and strengthened my critical thinking. I understand situations faster and make better decisions under pressure. From being a trainee to becoming a Detective, my skills have grown tremendously and my moral compass has improved.
Even on a spiritual level, I’ve developed a deep determination against the criminals who seek to endanger our citizens.

Oh, and I’ve also become… somewhat bald. I guess stress does that. If anyone has advice on growing hair back, I’m open to suggestions!
