- 3.1) Why are you interested in becoming a Court Clerk, and how does this role align with your long-term career goals, such as becoming a Judge? (100 word minimum)
- My interest in becoming a Court Clerk is to fulfill my longer term goal of becoming a Judge. Since growing up, I've had a fascination with the legal justice system and believe it to be one of the greatest civic duties anyone can fulfill. I believe the Court Clerkship will allow me to demonstrate my logical thinking, attention to detail and my fairness in any situation.
The importance of the judicial branch to the citizens of Los Santos is paramount; having a system that ensures a speedy and fair trial to any and all citizens ensures that not only is justice served, but that everyone is treated fairly throughout the entire system. I strive to be apart of a system that can help protect and serve it's citizens in such a manner.
- To me, the importance of prioritisation here cannot go unstated. Being able to understand upcoming deadlines and prioritising work appropriately helps maintain a sense of order while approaching a significant amount of paperwork.
To manage a set of detailed tasks while maintaining accuracy is a difficult challenge, however I believe making a sincere effort to the prioritised list of tasks and sorting through the work in order gives the breathing room to ensure each task is approached with the correct level of detail and accuracy.
- During my time as a Roadworker, employed by the SADOT, I have had to continually work with large groups of individuals to ensure an efficient and timely resolution to the problems faced on a daily basis. Whether this be closing down a road in an appropriate order to ensure the safety of other Roadworkers, or organising enough Roadworkers to effectively move a fallen tree in a road, there has been plenty of times where team-work, coordination and communication has played a role to achieve a common goal.
- While I have had no official employment within this State that requires such a capacity, I believe I go through life with this approach. Neutrality and unbiased decision-making lead to the least amount of confrontations with others, while being able to apply logical thinking to all situations. This is how I like to conduct myself and I feel I will fit in to this career especially well due to this.
- Yes I am.
- There are several qualities that make a good Judge, though I would argue these are all qualities that are required of Judges regardless of performance. To start, a Judge needs to be impartial. They are the one person in the Court that should have no interest in seeing either side prevail, but rather have the singular focus on ensuring that a just process is followed and the correct verdict is issued regardless of who is involved.
This then moves into Integrity. All Judges need to be honest, ethical and impartial at all times and these qualities reflect on a Judges' integrity. A Judge with integrity would recuse themselves from a case if they feel they cannot be impartial, demonstrating a strong sense of honesty.
While I believe there are plenty of other qualities, I think the other quality that makes the "top three" would be being open-minded. A Judge has to listen to both sides of a case, fully understand the facts and then make an impartial decision. To get to that point in the process, a Judge has to be able to hear both sides of an argument and fully take in the circumstances to consider all perspectives. Someone who is not open-minded may not be swayed even with sound argument, making this an important factor for a Judge.
- Personal beliefs of laws and rulings should remain personal and have no direct influence on my duties to the Court. My responsibilities would be to ensure that any laws or rulings that are relevant to cases that I am involved in are still applied objectively. Where appropriate, writing opinions on the matters that can contain any personal objections may be a suitable avenue, along with raising any concerns with the appropriate legal body. However, in these instances I believe my professional role should have no weight on any attempts to raise concerns and instead should only be done as a private citizen.
