Mission Rovers FC's Mid Table Finish

Los Santos: This past week, Mission Rovers FC completed their Season 7 trophy campaign with a near perfect record against a backdrop of a litany of incidents that threatened the very existence of the club. Mission Rovers FC is the Los Santos Police Department's semi-professional soccer team.

For those of you that don't know, the Seasonal Playoffs run at the end of every season, from Thursday until Thursday, with teams from all over the United States competing to secure glory for themselves. Mission Rovers has struggled for consistency in recent times with injuries to key players, transfer signings that backfired and a number of bust-ups with the league's authorities which brought Mission Rovers to the brink.

Mission Rovers entered the Playoffs lower than usual, as part of Division Five, owing to the off the field issues and as a result, their playoff campaign was reduced from ten games to eight games. This is intended to ease the financial burden of teams competing at a lower level.

In terms of personnel situations, deadline day signings Zero Hunter and Chris Malosh had been and gone since Rovers last competed in the Playoffs. Josh Durry would be missing the entire tournament with complications stemming from the expiration of his visa. Star striker Aaron Marks, who has been dealing with a persistent ankle problem all spring was a fitness doubt. Rovers were boosted by the re-signing of Dan Endo as well as the return of long-term absentee, Elian Ramos to bolster their ranks.

Rovers started their campaign against Wob United in the worst possible fashion, with Aaron Marks pulling up in the second minute with a flare up of his ankle issue and having to be substituted. Rovers, out of practice and seemingly out of hope, found themselves 1-3 down at the interval. However, MRFC were inspired in the second half, with George Hill scoring two more times to complete his hat trick in the second half, tying the game 3-3 and as is customary, extra time beckoned. After 12 minutes in the first period of extra time, Dezzy Bala sent James Kelly through and Kelly calmly slotted the ball past a helpless Leaf Larson in the Wob United goal, to win the game for Rovers.

James Kelly wrote:Obviously didnae start the game as well as we should like, but aye, that's fitball. Ever so pleased to win the game for the boys, thought we played well when we got going and we felt confident from them on that we could be a match for anyone.
Next up for Rovers would be Jims Kids, a controversially named football team, inspired by a disgraced former English disc jockey in the United Kingdom. Rovers would ruthlessly fix it for them, by putting Jims Kids to the sword 6-1. James Kelly continued his fine form with two goals and three assists, George Hill found himself on the scoresheet and assisted three goals but Dezzy Bala stole the plaudits with a hat-trick from his position in the midfield to especially elate the fans. Aaron Marks could only watch on, with pride, as his teammates showed their qualities.

Marks returned for the third Playoff game against Atlas FC but perhaps the bigger and more emotional story was the return of Elian Ramos, off the bench as a substitute. It's no secret that Ramos has been dealing with serious health issues off the pitch, but his inclusion brought the Maze Bank Arena to their feet in appreciation for everything he has been through. Rovers cut through the Atlas FC defence like a hotknife through butter, roaring into a 3-0 lead. Marks returned to the starting line-up and the scoresheet in typical fashion, with James Kelly and George Hill also chipping in, before Ramos struck six minutes before time to secure the third victory of the campaign.

Aaron Marks wrote:Scoring goals is something that I've always loved. I've had me new missus in the stands today watching us which was mint. The ankle seems to be holding up okay, but I just hope I can kick on and help the lads finish strong in the campaign. We've not really been as good as we can be, so to start this way is really positive like. Howay the lads!
Mission Rovers completed the first day of the Playoffs with a 5-0 win against The One Club, with Bala scoring twice, George Hill scoring and Elian Ramos building on his return from injury by scoring two goals. Dan Endo was instrumental for Rovers in this game, frustrating and stifling any creativity that One Club could come up with. His efforts were rewarded when in the second half, following repeated acts of violence, One Club had two players sent off.

Day Two of the Playoffs started off extremely well, with a 3-0 win against Rathgormack. George Hill, flourishing as the lone striker, displayed his lethal finishing capabilities. Following some crowd trouble, the game was abandoned and forfeited after only 21 minutes by Rathgormack. Next up was GBO Group and Rovers again proved they were far too much for the opposition, winning the game 5-1. Bala scored early on to put Rovers in a commanding position, but then turned provider and supplied James Kelly and George Hill with the ammunition to bag a brace each. Nothing good lasts forever, which is true in both Sport and in life. Rovers found that out the hard way in their penultimate game, going down 5-3 against a much stronger Pass Over 80p FC. Despite scoring three times and keeping the game a contest until the end with goals from Ramos, Hill and Bala, it just wasn't to be.
Dan Endo wrote:It's been an absolute pleasure coming back to the club and for us to have had the difficulties we've had over the last few months but still manage to win six and lose one game, speaks to the qualities of these boys. My team. Good team. I've felt the love from all the Mission Rovers fans and the Brev Army.
Rovers faced off against the bizarrely titled Ehgfjghlhhvgb FC, but the game was halted after 17 minutes, following serious allegations of match fixing in their playoff campaign. Despite the protests of Mission Rovers to continue the match, the referee called an end to the proceedings and with that, the curtain came down on the Playoff campaign. Rovers finished 7321st in the world, achieving a mid-table Playoff finish, to the delight of their fan base.
Dezzy Bala wrote:It's been a really rough couple of months for the Club. I'm just pleased that we could get back to the stresses on the pitch, rather than be worrying about the stresses off of it. I've been enjoying the more attacking role and I think that was reflected in my statistics for this Playoff run, but really it's all about the performance of the collective. We may have won seven games but we shouldn't be in Division 5 in the first place. The results say we didn't miss Aaron but I know we'd have been more impressive and perhaps could have won 8 games, not 7. Great to have Dan back, and incredible to be back playing with Ramos. Kelly stepped but George also really showed his quality. It's all about now getting back up the leagues and trying to show what we're capable of.
