San Andreas Withdraws from Chinese Trade Memorandum
The San Andreas State Government has formally withdrawn from a trade agreement with the People’s Republic of China following serious concerns over its economic impact on the state’s construction sector and the failure to uphold agreed upon terms.

At the center of the decision was the projected influx of low cost imported softwood lumber, which would have entered the market at prices far below what local producers can reasonably sustain. Construction across San Andreas depends heavily on a stable, domestic lumber supply, and allowing underpriced foreign materials to dominate the market would have placed local contractors, suppliers, and skilled trades at a significant disadvantage. Industry leaders warned that such pricing pressure would ripple through the construction pipeline, driving down demand for locally sourced materials and threatening long-term project viability.

These concerns were strongly echoed by the lumber lobby, which cautioned that the agreement could directly endanger the Paleto Forest Sawmill, the oldest operating sawmill in the state and a cornerstone of regional construction supply. The loss or downsizing of this facility would not only impact lumber production, but also disrupt construction timelines, increase reliance on imports, and weaken a critical link in San Andreas’ building economy.

The agreement also raised alarms for local lumberjacks and mill workers, many of whom are paid on a per-tree basis tied directly to construction demand. A flood of undercutting imports would reduce harvesting volumes, erode wages, and put skilled union labour at risk of displacement. Protecting these workers is inseparable from protecting the construction industry itself, as both rely on fair market conditions to remain viable.

In addition to the economic concerns, the Government determined that the agreement could not continue after the terms of a negotiated prisoner exchange were not honoured. San Andreas maintains that all agreements must be followed in full. When established rules are disregarded, it undermines trust and makes continued cooperation untenable. The Government remains committed to the Constitution of San Andreas and to the consistent, equal application of rules and obligations.

Looking ahead, the San Andreas State Government is reviewing a stronger framework for future trade agreements. Any new arrangements will be designed to support domestic construction, safeguard local industries and skilled labour, and prevent avoidable economic harm, while still engaging in fair and responsible trade. The priority remains clear: protecting the workers, businesses, and communities that build and sustain San Andreas.
