Retirement of Captain Dale Ashcroft

Los Santos: On November 28th, the Los Santos Police Department saw a significant change to its command-level operations and the Detective Bureau's major crimes division, with Captain Dale Ashcroft formally filing for his resignation.

Citing personal issues and self-improvement as his reasons for retirement, Ashcroft is concluding a law enforcement career with the Los Santos Police Department after five and a half years. He will be stepping away from his role within the Department's command staff and leadership, as well as his role as Assistant Commanding Officer, Major Crimes Division.

Captain Ashcroft started his career with the Los Santos Police Department on May 16th, 2020, after his successful graduation from the Los Santos Police Academy and his subsequent enrollment in the field training program. On June 18th, Ashcroft completed his service training and officially began his career as a Los Santos Police Officer. Dale made it to the rank of Police Officer II prior to taking a brief hiatus from the Department, followed by a return to field training on June 5th, 2021, and his graduation from the program on July 16th, 2021.

It was here that Ashcroft began to seek specialization to advance his career and pursue avenues outside of patrol, choosing to be reassigned to the then-Vinewood Traffic Division as a traffic officer on August 3rd, 2021. Dale saw success in his assignment, advancing to Police Officer III and taking on the mantle as a training officer, responsible for training, preparing, and guiding the next generations of officers.

Ashcroft remained a traffic officer for a large part of his early career, only stepping away on September 19th, 2022, when he was assigned to the Major Crimes Division as a Detective Trainee, seeing his enrollment in the Department's detective training program. On December 11th, 2022, Ashcroft graduated from the training program and was promoted to Detective I, taking on an assignment as a Vice Detective, an assignment that later proved fundamental in setting the stage for his progression and passion within the division, bureau, and department.

His advancement to a position as detective supervisor saw him temporarily assuming the role of Detective-in-Charge, Robbery-Homicide Unit on September 20th, 2023. Ashcroft's departure from the vice unit was, however, short-lived, as he made his return as the Detective-in-Charge, Vice Unit, on November 5th, 2023, an assignment that defined Dale's career in the Detective Bureau and the Department. Ashcroft brought a fresh sense of meaning to the vice unit, serving as an inspiration for many aspiring detectives, resulting in an increase in detectives assigned to the vice unit over time. Eventually, Ashcroft became known in the Department as "the Vice father", due to the developments within his unit, his role as a role model and guide for newer detectives, and his passion for everything Vice.

Ashcroft continued his career as the esteemed leader of the Vice Unit until January 23rd, 2025, when both separated units were abolished, which saw him assuming an in-charge position over the division, as opposed to a segregation thereof. During this time, Dale saw many successes in his career, including his promotion to Lieutenant II. On February 3rd, Ashcroft was promoted to Assistant Commanding Officer, Major Crimes Division, and on July 2nd, 2025, he was promoted to Captain I and inducted into the Department's command staff.

Saying that Captain Ashcroft made significant contributions to the City of Los Santos, the Department, and his assigned areas would be an understatement. His commanding officers and superiors had the following to say:

Chief of Police Phillipe Sanchez wrote:Captain Ashcroft dedicated his career to the Los Santos Police Department with a strong commitment. He consistently upheld high standards in the Detective Bureau, and his leadership improved the quality of investigative work, as well as the professionalism and integrity that define the Bureau today. Dale was more than just a Captain; he had a strong presence. His friendly nature, approachability, and ability to unite people made others gravitate toward him, whether in the locker room or the bullpen - commonly wearing only his trusted towel.

His absence will be deeply felt across the department, both in our work and in the everyday moments he brightened. Captain Ashcroft leaves behind a legacy of excellence, camaraderie, and humour that everyone who served alongside him will remember. As we say goodbye to him from his post for now, we truly hope to see him return soon. His impact will last, and we will miss his presence more than words can express.

Assistant Chief Scott Dunbar, Chief of Operations wrote:Captain Ashcroft is one of the warmest and welcoming people I have met during my time in this department. He marries that with his excellent leadership and investigative skills, which are second to none within our department. I am sure I speak for the whole department when I say he will be sorely missed.

I wish him the best in whatever comes next and hope one day to welcome him back to the Los Santos Police Department's ranks.

Deputy Chief Jason Steel, Commanding Officer, Detective Bureau wrote:Police Captain Dale Ashcroft set himself apart in the department by being one of the most approachable officers; he was one of the few officers in our department to regularly stroll through the locker room with nothing but a towel and a cowboy hat as he made his way to the showers. At times when he was in uniform, Captain Ashcroft took the daunting task of breathing life into a division that had lacked energy for a very long time, and he succeeded at that. I am sure that many officers will miss him dearly.

As a prominent leadership figure within the Detective Bureau, Captain Ashcroft will be remembered as a person with a passion for the job second to none, an innovative leader who cared both for the development of his assigned unit and his personnel, and a staple of the detective culture today.

With Captain Ashcroft making his leave from the Department, he takes with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, and leaves behind a legacy that is nothing short of exemplary, proving definitively that one does not need to fit a mould to progress their career, and that Department politics do not have to get into the way of working with your personnel, being present for them as a guide, and as a role model.

We wish Captain Ashcroft nothing but the best and a prosperous retirement, hoping that he pursues and achieves all he intends and wishes to.
