Los Santos: On October 30th, the Los Santos Police Department saw a significant shift in its operations within Command Staff and its special operations, particularly the aerial operations of the Department, with Captain Josh Durry formally filing for his resignation.

Citing early retirement as his reason, Durry is concluding a 6-year law enforcement career with the Los Santos Police Department, stepping away from his role within the Department's command staff and his leadership role as the Commanding Officer, Air Support Division, overseeing the development and day-to-day operations of the Department's aerial division.

Captain Durry started his career with the Department through his enrollment in field training on August 11, 2019. Followed by his graduation and promotion to Police Officer I on September 5, 2019, Durry officially began developing his career. Throughout his time and over late 2019 to mid-2020, Durry stepped away from the Department twice, returning for the longest stint of his career on November 2, 2020, as a Police Officer II.

Early in his career, Durry developed a passion for traffic enforcement and was assigned as a traffic officer to the then-Vinewood Traffic Division. Months later, Captain Durry steered his career in a different direction, taking up an opportunity to become part of the newly founded Gang Field Unit, a sub-unit of the Gang and Narcotics Division. Here, Durry continued his career, taking a brief stint in patrol while enrolling in the supervisor training program. He graduated from supervisor school, and his promotion to Sergeant I marked his full-time return to the Gang Field Unit as its Officer-in-Charge on September 21, 2021.

Eventually, Captain Durry worked his way up to becoming the Assistant Commanding Officer, Gang and Narcotics Division, after which he enrolled in the detective training program to reassign his duties from Sergeant to Detective III. He continued his work within this division until his requested reassignment to patrol on March 2, 2023, seeing him taking on a role as Assistant Commanding Officer, Mission Row Patrol Division, allowing him to shift further focus to specialized duties in the Air Support Division and the Internal Affairs Division.

While Durry continued to work his way up and was eventually promoted to Captain as the Commanding Officer, Mission Row Patrol Division on July 15, 2024, it was the secondary assignments he held in which he would truly shine and distinguish himself, taking on the role of Commanding Officer, Air Support Division, and eventually Commanding Officer, Internal Affairs Division.

Through his positions within air support and internal affairs, Captain Durry has made significant contributions not only to the Los Santos Police Department, but the City of Los Santos as a whole. His commanding officers had the following to say:

Assistant Chief Scott Dunbar, Chief of Operations wrote: Captain Durry is a prime example that dedication and drive will get you places. He initially joined the department and hovered around the lower patrol officer ranks between resignations and reinstatements. He eventually found his calling within the Gang and Narcotics Division, which propelled his career into the supervisor and, eventually, the command team.

I worked closest with Captain Durry in his role as Commanding Officer of the Air Support Division. During his tenure in this role, he implemented several key improvements/programs, such as the Helicam Operator program, greatly improving the division.

Captain Durry was a steady pair of hands in whom I could leave the day-to-day operations of the Air Support Division without concern. I wish him the best in his retirement.

Deputy Chief Gareth Longford, Commanding Officer, Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau wrote: During my tenure in the Los Santos Police Department, Captain Durry has stood out as the most well-rounded Officer in every step of his career, as it was clear that Captain Durry made efforts to maintain a balance of effective policing as well as humanity. This, paired with his dedication to his specialised roles in the Department, made him a valued member and now, a significant loss to our team.

I would like to wish Captain Durry my best in his retirement.

As Captain Durry takes his leave from the Department to retire, he takes a wealth of knowledge and experience with him, leaving a large hole in a team he has spent years being a part of. We wish Captain Durry nothing but the best, and a prosperous retirement and hope that he pursues and achieves all he intends and wishes to.
