LSPD and LSSD Host K9 Showdown

Los Santos: On July 25th, the Los Santos Police Department and the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department hosted the collaborative "K9 Showdown" event at the Finn's Paws & Play Pet Park, an event intended to showcase the respective Department's K9 units that can be labeled a success.

Originally an idea spearheaded by Investigator Zero Hunter of LSSD and Police Administrator Ally Jean of LSPD, the goal of the proposed event was to provide the general public the opportunity to ask questions surrounding police canines and to better understand how to interact with the dogs, in the event that a canine handler pulls them over, and to allow the handlers to show off the capabilities of their canine partners.

In preparation for the event and to facilitate a platform to host a giveaway of pet dog adoptions, a good-faith LifeInvader poll was created to let the public vote on who they believed would come out as the winner of the showdown. Ultimately, 128 people voted, with LSPD K9 winning the vote by a difference of only 6 votes, which only further highlights the faith in both of the respective K9 units.

The winners of the adoptions are as follows, and if they have not yet collected, they should contact a representative of the Media Relations Division:
  • Stela Dolga
  • Brian Stone
  • Bruce Tubby
  • Saurian Logan
  • Conrad Frederico
For the purposes of the event, an agility course was built to showcase the talent of law enforcement canines while also showing the general public a part of the training that police dogs go through. Ultimately, the police dogs faced off in a timed race, where LSSD won the coin toss to start the race, a race which was eventually won by the LSPD's Officer-in-Charge of its K9 Platoon, Detective Mick Wegman, and his loyal canine partner, Maverick. A second race was done in good faith and for fun, which was a positive experience.

The Media Relations Division has gathered quotes from participants in the event:
Detective I Mick Wegman, LSPD wrote: Thank you all for attending the K9 race. I want to thank the K9 Division from the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department for accepting our invitation and joining us in the amazing event that occurred. We could see that everyone who participated in the event enjoyed it, which is our goal, and we achieved it, bringing notice and fun back to the amazing dogs of PD & SD. We look forward to bringing more positive engagement and more activities for our dogs in the future, as this was a much-needed event to bring forward the dogs. With that, I am proud to say the event was a success as we had several community members and individuals attend and enjoy it.

Investigator Zero Hunter, LSSD wrote: K9 has always had a soft spot for me in both SD and eventually PD. I adore dogs, and understandably, the attention that this division receives from the public is in the wrong light due to the amazing work our sniffer dogs do. However, these K9s are a lot more than that; they are K9s that go into dangerous situations, deal with explosives, find missing people, and a lot more. I wanted the public to see this a bit better, and I could not think of a better person than Ally Jean. I think with her help and guidance on how to make the event a success, we definitely managed to showcase the division in both Departments in an amazing way.

This event would not have been possible without the plethora of handlers who made the time to attend the event and participate in the races and the general event as a whole, and for that, we would like to extend our warmest gratitude to Deputy Ike Vanburen and his K9 partner, Beans, Deputy Trixie Bankshot and her K9 partner, Moxie, Deputy Jucio Korbel and her K9 partner, Mango, and Deputy Holly Hakkinen and her K9 partner, Kimi, of the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department, and Detective Mick Wegman and his K9 partner, Maverick, of the Los Santos Police Department.

It is a great responsibility and duty to look over a canine partner, both in the job but also outside of it, one that asks a lot of you, but in return, a great bond is forged between two partners with the utmost loyalty and dependency on one another, which in and of itself, is a beautiful thing. And for that, we thank them, as well as their canine partners, for taking the time out of their schedules to make this event possible, not only for the strengthening of departmental and divisional relations, but for the general public.

Moreover, we would like to extend our thanks to Police Administrator Ally Jean and Investigator Zero Hunter for making this event possible, with Investigator Hunter ensuring that the agility course was constructed, fielding the idea as a whole, Administrator Jean for facilitating the event between the two Departments, and Johnnie Ravenhill for catering the event.
