LSPD Bestows Life Saving Medal on Officer

Los Santos: On the evening of April 14th, the Los Santos Police Department bestowed the Police Life Saving Medal on one of its officers. This medal serves as an award for bravery, usually awarded to officers for taking action to rescue or attempt the rescue of either a fellow officer or any person from imminent danger.

Awarded to Police Officer III Percy Heines for his heroic and brave actions, the medal was issued by Captain Bill Breacher, approved by Assistant Chief Phillipe Sanchez.

"The Police Life Saving Medal is an award for bravery, usually awarded to officers for taking action in order to rescue or attempt the rescue of either a fellow officer or any person from imminent danger."

On April 10th, Los Santos Police Officers became engaged in an exchange of fire with heavily-armed hostile forces, who had set up what was later discovered to be a drug lab located in a cove on the coast. During the exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and the hostiles, multiple officers were hit and injured, which resulted in them being unable to bring themselves to safety.

Officer Percy Heines, an officer assigned to the Metropolitan Division's D Platoon, commonly known as SWAT, was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice by heading directly into an area where multiple officers had already been shot by barricaded suspects, in an attempt to secure his fellow officers and bring them out of harm's way.

Through tactical positioning, cover, communication, and teamwork, Officer Heines was able to bring at least four officers to safety on his own and assisted with the rescue of a fifth officer from an active hostile area that posed a risk to the lives of all present officers, allowing them to be transported and transferred into medical care.

Unfortunately, the officer who contributed to the rescue of the fifth officer did, ultimately, make the ultimate sacrifice. To honor the wishes of the officer's family, the officer shall remain unnamed to the general public. We thank him for his service, and he will live on in our memory, as we stand with his family and loved ones, offer them our heartfelt condolences, and forever remember and extend our gratitude for his sacrifice.

A brief statement was provided by Chief Elena Flores.

Chief Elena Flores wrote: The actions of Officer Heines have been nothing but exemplary and heroic. It goes against every cell and fiber in one's body to put aside the inherent fear of harm to answer the call when officers need you, and you are the difference between a grieving family and an emotional reunion.

Not only is it a testiment to the training and service of the officers serving with the Los Santos Police Department or its specialized divisions, but it is a testament to how our officers have each other's back, no matter how dire the situation gets, and are always looking out for each other, making sure that everyone gets to go home to their wives, husbands, and families at the end of shift.

It is with pride and honor that I would follow Officer Heines into any active combat zone or area of danger without doubt or as much as a second of lack of faith in his abilities to have my back when it is most needed, as we have his.

Because of Officer Heines' actions, five officers are projected to make a full recovery and go home to their families, a fate that would have been much worse had it not been for the heroism of Officer Heines.

While this press release is celebratory in nature, we wish to take this moment and opportunity to stand by and highlight the losses experienced by not only the Los Santos Police Department on that night, but also the families who have suffered an unimaginable loss at the hands of these criminals.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families, both blood and work, of the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice that night after selflessly serving their communities.
