Los Santos: Planning a community event? Whether you're organizing a marathon, a block party, or a parade, you may need a road closure permit from the Los Santos Police Department. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure your event is well-prepared, safe, and compliant with city regulations.

Types of Events Requiring Road Closure Permits
The LSPD processes permits for a variety of events, including:
  • Athletic Events: Marathons, 5k/10k runs, walkathons, and bike races.
  • Street Closures: Legal street races, community events, block parties, celebrations, street fairs, parades, and processions.
  • Special Events: Citywide special events, red carpet events, grand openings, and ceremonies.
  • Political and Demonstrative Events: Planned demonstrations, marches, and political gatherings.

Requirements for Road Closure Permits
To apply for a road closure permit, event organizers must meet several requirements:
  • Dedicated Host: Each event must have a designated host responsible for the application and organization.
  • Clean Record: The host must have no serious misdemeanors or felonies within the past three months.
  • Advance Notice: Submit the application at least five days before the event.
  • Event Details: Specify the date, time, and type of event.
  • Safety Measures: Provide proof of a Basic Life Support (BLS) certified individual if required and ensure the availability of private security for crowd control.
  • Participant Control: Assure LSPD of the ability to manage participants and remove unpermitted individuals, particularly those with gang affiliations.

Considerations for Approval
The LSPD evaluates several factors before approving street closures:
  • Impact on Residents and Businesses: How the closure affects local traffic, residents, and nearby businesses.
  • Emergency Access: Ensuring emergency vehicles can access the closure area.
  • Public Convenience: Minimizing inconvenience to the general public and ensuring alternate routes for traffic.

Event Organizer Responsibilities
  • Restricted Use: Ensure the closed street is used solely for the approved event purpose.
  • Compliance with Laws: Adhere to all city, state, and federal laws.
  • Property Protection: Avoid damaging public property, such as streets, sidewalks, or curbs.
  • Cleanup: Remove all event debris; the city may bill for any additional cleaning required.

Notification Requirements
Organizers must notify all affected residents, property owners, and businesses about the event details:
  • Local Streets: At least 24 hours in advance.
  • Major/Secondary Streets: At least 48 hours in advance.

Security and Safety
The LSPD will not provide event security. Organizers are responsible for hiring private security and ensuring BLS-certified personnel are present for legal street races or other high-risk events. Failure to comply with safety protocols, especially regarding gang-affiliated individuals, may result in event cancellation.
