Winter Preparedness and Safety

Los Santos: The weather has a habit of changing quickly during the winter season, bringing along powerful winter storms that can bring copious amounts of snow and ice at high speeds, along with blowing snow and whiteout conditions. Moreover, the temperature can drop quickly in a matter of hours.

It is important to be aware, prepared, and safe, both for yourself and others. As the temperatures have dropped significantly and the winter conditions set in, the Los Santos Police Department wants to ensure that all residents of the City of Los Santos stay safe, warm, and prepared for the cold months of winter ahead of them.

During the winter period within the State, both with respect to the City and County, it is highly advised that if you wish to partake in outside activities as opposed to staying inside a warm home or property, you dress weather-appropriately, ensuring that you stay warm despite the weather circumstances. You are highly advised to dress in layers, wear hats, gloves, and insulated footwear, and accessorize yourself with clothing items like a scarf to cover your neck from the cold gusts of the winter wind.

In cases of extreme cold, you should aim to limit your time outdoors. If you are outside during late points of the day when the temperatures hit their low points for things such as late Christmas shopping or taking a stroll, please consider stopping in a few extra stores or cafés to warm yourself up.

The Los Santos Police Department has further put out an advisory release pertaining to driving and travel precautions, highlighting the importance of road safety, especially during icy or snowy conditions. We highly advise you to read the release "Driving in Slippery Conditions".

We further encourage members of the community to check on their elderly neighbors or relatives, residents with limited mobility or access to sources of warmth, or, for example, the unhoused in these conditions. It is important to contribute to a safer and warmer society during the cold winters, and it requires effort and vigilance from all. Together, we can ensure everyone is prepared and safe.

Finally, we urge the public to educate themselves on the early symptoms of hypothermia and frostbite. In the case of hypothermia, it can shown through shivering, confusion, slurred speech, and exhaustion. Frostbite can become apparent through numbness, pale skin, and stiffness in fingers or toes. In any such case, please contact the Los Santos Emergency Services by dialing the emergency hotline at 911.
