Chief's Message - June 2024

Los Santos: As the Los Santos Police Department concludes the month of May, Chief Elena Flores extends a message of reflection and addresses the accomplishments, challenges, and future endeavors of the Department.

Chief Elena Flores wrote: As May leaves, we enter another new month and are returning to the summertime. While it is great to be able to spend time in the sun with friends and family and to enjoy warmer temperatures in general, please remember to be safe and drink enough water.
A review of crime metrics across the city based on statistical data shows that burglaries, which again are inclusive of but not limited to break-ins and home invasions, have seen a decrease of 31% compared to the last month, during which they were already on a decrease. Auto thefts, however, have seen an increase of 22% compared to the data presented last month. It is advised for civilians to ensure their vehicles are parked in safe, well-lit environments, that their vehicles are locked, and their personal or expensive belongings are removed when the vehicle is left, or at least not stored in a way where they can easily be seen.
The Firearms Licensing Division under the direction of Lieutenant II Mike Luigi finalized and completed the implementation of a "Guard Card" process last month, which is aimed at businesses such as night clubs and private security companies, allowing the employees of said businesses working in security to apply for a specialized permit which in turn will allow them to carry their firearms while carrying out their line of work in premises that serve alcohol.
Our traffic division assisted with a car show event hosted by the Downtown Drift Club through the closing and managing lanes of the main Del Perro Freeway during an operation hosted and overseen by Police Officer III Leo Larson. While it provided a logistical challenge, the traffic division determined that the temporary closure of the main freeway was viable once the event organizers applied for a road closure permit. The traffic division of LSPD is happy to assist and encourages organizers to apply for road closure permits to liaise and work with the department on their events on public roads.
Acts of violence, crime, and hostility toward law enforcement have not seen a notable decrease, and the department remains dedicated to ensuring our officers are able to carry out their duties and continue to provide service to the communities and citizens of the city. The reviews that have been previously conducted of department processes and qualifications have, however, provided our officers to be well-equipped and able to appropriately and adequately react to violence and hostilities. The LSPD remains committed to actively measuring statistics, working on planning and strategizing to take strides in reducing crime further so that the safety of both peace officers and the public can be enhanced and ensured.
On a final note, I wish to use this opportunity to express once more my gratitude for the unwavering dedication and commitment of not only our officers, but also the deputies of the Sheriff's Department, all government workers, and every citizen who has contributed to making the City of Los Santos a better, safer place.
