OVERVIEW
- A Guard Card is required for individuals who intend to utilize their licensed firearms in professional work settings, such as providing security at events and clubs that serve alcohol, or other public events requiring security services.
REQUIREMENTS & REGULATIONS
- These requirements and regulations are applicable to those applying for a Guard Card.
- Applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $25,000.
- Individuals must have a valid Standard Firearms License for a minimum of 3 months or have a Firearms License (PRIORS) for a minimum of 10 months before applying for a Guard Card License
- Be the owner of a licensed security business.
- Be employed with a security business with an owner already licensed with a Professional Firearms License
- Individuals need to pass a background check conducted by the Gang and Narcotics division for any gang affiliation.
- Applicants must pass the FLD safety and competency training and exam.
- Business owners must hold a Guard Card for employees to be eligible.
- The business must possess an active license for FSBL:04 - Private Security Firm.
- An employee's Guard Card is only valid for the listed company. If an employee leaves the company they were licensed under, their license is deactivated. It is the responsibility of the company owner to inform us of any such changes. If the Guard Card holder wishes to reactivate their license or transfer to a different company, they can do so within 3 months; beyond this period, they must reapply.
- FLD Command must be notified at least 48 hours prior to any event that will require the use of the Guard Card.
- FLD personnel must be granted unrestricted access to events utilizing a Guard Card to ensure compliance.
- While utilizing a Guard Card, the cardholder must wear a body camera that is recording. Recordings must be stored by the company for at least 10 days. ((RP proof is required, video recordings are not))
- Guard Card holders must be willing to undergo blood and/or urine tests administered by LSEMS to monitor drug use if requested by FLD at any time.
- Guard Card holders are required to call 911 in any situation where they have brandished or used a firearm.
APPLICATION
Steps to apply
1. Navigate to the LSPD Portal.
2. Click on the relevant application format under "Firearms Licensing."
3. Fill out each field with the correct information and click submit when you are done.
4. Click "YES" when the pop up appears asking "Do you want to copy the format and open the forums?" and paste (CTRL+V) in the open field.
5. Title your application as: Firstname Lastname [GUARD CARD]
