- SECTION 4 - LONG RESPONSE
4.1 Why do you want to be employed with the Judicial Branch? (75 WORDS):- After my recent retirement from the Alberta Court of Appeals, I find my days missing something. I made a trip into a small courthouse in northern Washington while on my road-trip to the states and found being in the courtroom as a spectator an enlightening spark to my retired life. Seeing as I wish to settle in Los Santos, away from the harsh Canadian winters, as well as my understanding that the branch is developing still, I feel my former expertise even in a paralegal and support role would more then make this old lady more then happy as I reach the end of my years.
I am still actively deciding if I wish to presume my former work as a judge or explore a new tact in life as a state attorney and become the one facing a judge to present a case. Whatever the future opportunities, I am excited to explore them once I prove myself to the branch in a paralegal role.
Also, if its of concern to the department, despite the fact I resigned in part to health concerns from my formal role as an appellate judge, I have made great strides in terms of my personal health! While I do struggle with the stairs in the building, I find that most other tasks that would be required of me would not be at all a trouble!
- I feel the trait I possess that would be most valuable to my potential employment in the Judicial Branch are my skills in analyses and the thoughtful conceptualization of complex topics, as well as a personal interest I have in writing. Foremost, I love to explore legal topics that are traditionally unexplored like the meaning of certain laws and executive proclamations. I find it fascinating that people generally take the title of a law at face value to mean one thing, but upon closer inspection of the text would appear to suggest something vastly different in meaning. One such example of this I would love to discuss in person in the current understanding of impersonation laws within the state.
Combined the joy I take in writing, I feel I would be best put to work at the San Andreas Judaical Branch in more of a support role, not necessarily becoming the star prosecutor in a case, but helping prepare documentation for the individuals working the cases or provide insight on legal strategies. If I do decide to return to my former role as a judge, I would very much like to bring into my rulings the concept of judicial opinions, explaining how in terms of the case and the interpretation of the laws I came to a decision.
- A penal code is not, should never be, and will never be, an adequate means of protecting an individual’s rights. Rights are either inherent as provided in the living breathing document of a nation’s foundation, a constitution, or codified into law either literally or indirectly through the development of common law.
The issue with the second approach is that at any point, those rights can be overwritten by being amended over to be null and void, and common law exists so law as a body exists to preserve and respect it. This is self evident by the nature of codified law and the concepts imbued within common law. Many a modern democracy have failed due to such provisions not being ingrained into the fabric of the nation and the peoples who reside within it.
That all is to say in short, a formal, immutable constitution with rights and responsibilities both for civilian and government entities. I'm not asking for the recreation of the American constitution (however, I assure you people 200+ years ago did the hard work ), but rather a document that provides a concept of rights that both lawyers and judges can use to simplify cases and meaningfully impact the lives of the state’s citizens.
- No, heavens would anyone even be hire-able at that point!
- No, almost got a reckless operation, however that was when I was in my young-in. Thank goodness however, that lovely officer taught me the dangers of going all swerv-y on the roads. I learned a lot that day about the tragedy’s car accidents can bring upon a family. Today I keep it pinned at 65 KM/H.
- I received a citation in 1975 for drunk and disorderly behavior at a local collage bar. That is in the past now thank gosh! No more parties for me!
- Caroline Johnson is a 65-year-old retired appellate judge from northern Alberta, Canada. Born on November 22, 1956 to a loving father and mother, Caroline lived a rural life in the town of Red Deer. Growing up, she was like any normal child, enjoying having fun and meeting new friends. She especially appreciated the moments she had with her father, whom was a practicing attorney in the region.
While her father was a great man, he was always very busy with work, therefor, her aunt Alison Redwater’s personally babysat most evenings while her parents worked. Aunt Redwater’s had a wide assortment of books and encouraged her to explore both a passion for knowledge and wisdom that could be gained from the home library. With this seed planted, a gowning passion was born, Caroline found herself particularly interested in books about modern history especially when it came to powerful world events. Caroline developed a close bond with her aunt and appreciated the moments they shared reliving the events of the modern era of civilization.
At the age of 14, tragedy struck Caroline when her Aunts home was intruded upon by a petty thief trying to make off with a TV. What to the thief would have been an easy snatch and grab, turned violent when her aunt attempted to physically prevent the mans escape. The man proceeded assault and ultimately murder her in cold blood when the altercation became a fist fight, a fight no aunt at age 43 would be able to defend against. In the end, while the thief was caught, Caroline developed resentment at individuals who took such actions directly affecting others free will to life and self determination, seeing these actions as the cause of a inner most evil of there very being,
Nearing the end of high school, her father began asking what she would be moving onto in life. While 1973 was not well known for its appreciation of woman in positions of power, Caroline decided to challenge that and decided to take steps following the path of her father. First, she began undergraduate studies in history at the University of Alberta in the big city, looking specifically into moments of legal significance such as the development of the British house of commons and the fight for American independence. After the completion of her undergraduate studies, she proceeded to complete her Juris Doctor, not without struggle from the resentment of older male professors.
Caroline took a job at her father’s law firm, initially just as a family hire, but moved on to work in an official paralegal position after the completion of her studies. This experience proved invaluable when it came time for her to proceed to take the bar exam and as such she passed with resounding scores. Caroline continued to work with her father for another year gaining more experience in the field of law. Her time in university lead her to meet a respectable young man, and son to an appeals judge. He helped her to learn of court positions open within the Alberta Appeals Court and on July 13th, 1981 she officially took the position of Court Clerk.
Through tireless dedication to her job, Caroline moved through the ranks becoming eventually the Honorable Appellate Judge Caroline Johnson. In her role, that former resentment towards those two wronged her and her family found itself present in her initial duties as a judge. She fiercely disregarded at times the sentencing guidelines the prosecution and sought strict punishment, while higher courts would sometimes dispose of these rulings, at least four individuals faced lengthy legal battles and parole hearings to fight such rulings.
It was not until a grassroots organization in Alberta's heartland pressured the early court reforms of the early 2000's did Caroline find it within herself to understand the other side of the bench. Even while some where as guilty as day, the reformists showed through powerful messaging campaigns that they where not evil people inherently, moreover the crimes were in some cases caused by circumstances in there communities such as poor school funding or prejudices of the political figures representing there communities.
Caroline Johnson retired at age 63 due health concerns, as well as the desire to escape the bitter winters of Canada. On the 11th of August, 2021, she officially received her immigration papers and became a dual citizen of Canada and the United States.

- Do not actively play on any other server, but do retain membership in one. No faction membership in that server.
- Outside of role play, I have a key interest in "charter" law, known in America as constitutional law. I have looked over the constitutions extensively of the United States as well as California in the past and while I know IC we have no equivalent, the concepts are still brought up all the same in RP. I genuinely enjoy exploring constitutional "what-ifs" as well as looking into how rights and responsibilities are prescribed to citizens of a nation.
Additionally, while id like to keep my other character anonymous, I recently produced a document that explains my understanding of the currently foundations of laws within the IC state. Faction leadership can request it should they desire. I feel this document is the best OOC material I can show of my strong attention to details, investigation, and law at large.
