"EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW"

  • Citizens of San Andreas,

It saddens me to announce the resignation of Chief Public Defender Daniel Carmello. His efforts throughout his year-long tenure in the judicial branch will never be forgotten, and his ever-growing commitment to justice has left an enduring mark on our community.

His Career with the Judicial Branch began in July of 2024, when he was hired as a Law Student, training to become a Defense Attorney under Chief Public Defender Izaac Scott. The next month, he finished his training, quickly becoming a Junior Defense attorney, then a full Defense Attorney. In this short time, Daniel proved to be an essential part of the Public Defense division, assisting countless defendants with legal advice and representation, then branching into HR, assisting with training and hiring.
After the resignation of Izaak Scott, Daniel applied for the position of Chief Public Defender, being appointed officially as Interim in November 2024. In the following months, Daniel retained his commitment to justice and the defense division, constantly making improvements with his oversight until January 2025, when he was officially promoted to Chief Public Defender. Since then, He made the public defense how it is today, allowing defendants to have access to attorneys more easily and continuing to streamline the court process.

Please join us in celebrating the career of Mr Carmello and wishing him the best in his future endeavors.

      Daniel Carmello
When I first flew into the state, my dream was to become a lawyer. I joined the Judicial Branch back in July of 2024. Ever since then I have loved every second of my time in the branch. I loved the people I worked with and the people I met through working there. This place has taught me a lot, from law to good communication skills to great friendships. I think working in the Judicial Branch is a great opportunity for anyone seeking to start a career in law. With this being said, I will be resigning from the Judicial Branch to move further into my career as an attorney. I will be running my own law firm so I can focus on different matters. I will always be an attorney and am willing to help anyone who is seeking legal advice. I will continue to be a lawyer and for anyone seeking legal help, don't be scared to reach out to me or even the public defense team. The defense division has grown a lot since I became the Chief Public Defender. I know that the team will be able to help as well. The Judicial Branch holds a special place in my heart. I will miss working at City Hall and working with my peers. I want to thank Hope Kant for the opportunity to run the defense division for the past eight months. I want to thank everyone in the branch for getting me to where I am now and pushing me to be the person I am today. I will see you all around!

During his time with the Public Defense Division, Daniel Carmello showed up for defendants, worked quickly on assigned tasks, and was always willing to offer help to others. He created and refined processes within the Public Defense Division. He helped design a client database that combined all contact with a defendant into one localized area, allowing any defense attorney to assist a defendant regardless of who had the original case. Overall he ensured a more consistent representation for the people of San Andreas.

Daniel also contributed to the Public Notary Division by creating a handbook for reviewing contracts. This handbook provides clear guidance for staff and creates a pathway for future notaries to follow.

His work across both divisions has left systems and resources in place that will benefit the Judicial Branch long after his departure. We thank Daniel Carmello for his commitment to public service and wish him the best as he continues his legal career in the private sector.
