Los Santos: On July 27th, the Los Santos Police Department marked yet another momentous day, celebrating a promotion and addition to the selection of Staff Officers, signifying a change to the Department's upper-level leadership.
Gareth Longford has promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, assigned as Assistant to the Director, Office of Operations. In this position, Deputy Chief Longford assists Assistant Chief Dunbar, Director, Office of Operations, with the day-to-day operations and tasks within the Office of Operations, a task that does not come lightly, as operations houses standard patrol, the detectives, and specialized areas such as SWAT and air support.
Deputy Chief Longford previously served as the long-standing Commanding Officer, Metropolitan Division, having left a significant mark on the development of the renowned LSPD SWAT unit. Longford has not only been one of the individuals on the forefront spearheading the continuous development and progression of one of the world's best tactical teams, but has also been a prominent and present leadership figure within the Department.
Longford started his career with the Los Santos Police Department in early 2022 as a transfer, assuming the position of Sergeant assigned to the Metropolitan Division's D Platoon, as the Officer-in-Charge. He quickly advanced to the position of Assistant Commanding Officer, Metropolitan Division, and within the same month, he was upgraded to Sergeant II. Gareth eventually made Lieutenant in June of that year and continued this upward trajectory. In March 2023, Longford was promoted to Captain and officially inducted into LSPD Command Staff, taking on a more formalized leadership role within the Department structure. No less than five months later, in August 2023, following a shift in Department leadership under the administration of Chief Flores, Longford was promoted to Commanding Officer, Metropolitan Division. He continued to serve in this role until June 2025, when he was reassigned as Assistant to the Director, Office of Operations, a position he now holds permanently in his new role of Deputy Chief.
While he's not working, Longford enjoys resting at home with his cat, "Bunny", while watching a TV show or a movie, but also engages in a plethora of hobbies, regularly surrounding himself with music, developing his skills on the drums as a means of relaxation and a medium of artistic expression, and participates in regulated amateur motorsport events as a source of excitement.
