Constitutional Amendment Removing LRC Term Limits
Today the Governor of San Andreas signed the first constitutional amendment to come from the Law Review Committee (LRC), the legislative body of the state, at a informal signing ceremony that will remove term limits for those serving in the LRC. This change comes after repeated discussions with members of the Legislative Branch and its staff over the effectiveness of the provision. Before, members of the LRC could only serve two consecutive terms before being disqualified for a term, now this restriction will no longer be a constitutional amendment allowing candidates to serve three or more consecutive terms should they be re-elected.

The Governor remarked that signing this amendment was to address the concerns raised from the LRC that term limits where having a negative effect on the Law Review Committee and prevented passionate people from continuing to peruse the LRC as a career. While the Governor hopes to see new faces apply to join the LRC instead of the same politicians being elected repeatedly, its clear a passionate few wish to continue serving in the LRC in spite of the limits previously imposed.

While LRC applications are now closed, you can get a head start at looking over the requirements for the next election HERE. If you have ever felt the law was unjust, or you wanted to make your mark on San Andreas, now would be a good time to start early and hit the campaign trail!

Governor / Speaker Emily Whitehorse wrote: When the Constitution was drafted, a major unknown was how certain clauses could cause issues with the practical reality of a state this size. While most clauses have held the test of time, some clauses like terms limits are a great example of something being created ideally to prevent candidates consistently being voted into office, but in actually prevented people who want to work in the LRC from doing so as a full time career.

By signing this amendment, I hope the Law Review Committee can continue to allow passionate individuals to make a real change in San Andreas, and provide meaningful input with the laws of the state we all abide by. If you have never gotten into politics before, now is an excellent time to begin looking into it.
Deputy Speaker Harvey Johnson wrote: The Democracy has spoken! The removal of term limits for the elected representatives of the LRC is a change that has been requested by many over the years. As has been observed, there have not always been sufficient candidates to conduct elections. This amendment addresses that issue and ensures that individuals retain their democratic right to participate in elections through voting.
In the near future, a signing ceremony will be held at city hall, but as of this release, the amendment has officially been added to the constitution. While applications have just closed, now would be a great time to begin looking into running a campaign for our next election coming early May, 2026.
