At approximately 2100 hours last Friday, the Los Santos Police Department received information that a wanted blue sports vehicle was headed into the city, possibly entering the Police Department’s jurisdiction via Los Santos Freeway. The Los Santos Sheriff's Department communicated with the Police Department, available units fanned out and the vehicle was quickly spotted. Working in joint communication with three units from the Sheriff's Department, the Los Santos Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle, traveling at high rates of speed in wet and slippery conditions.

The blue sports vehicle in question did not pull over and a pursuit was initiated as the vehicle made its way through the north of the city. The challenging weather did not let up and continued to test officers’ driving and training as they followed the suspect vehicle through the heavy rain and fog. Approximately a combined number of eight Police and Sheriff's Department vehicles were involved in the pursuit, including numerous specialized units, such as a high-speed interceptor unit and a motorcycle unit. A police helicopter, also known as an airship quickly moved to assist, and soon was able to relay information to the units on the ground.

As the pursuit evolved, the wet roads made for treacherous conditions, our trained officers kept a safe distance however despite this, the suspect vehicle did not want to slow down, weaving through country roads. Unfortunately, instead of coming to a halt, the vehicle, approaching speeds over 200 km/h at points, barreled down Route 68 and then collided with another vehicle that was driving north on the northbound lane of Great Ocean Highway.

The collision had such force that the occupants of the suspect vehicle were ejected momentarily. The momentum pushed the suspect across two lanes of opposite travel and down the cliff edge nearby, eventually rolling into the ocean. Recovery services had to be called and would later retrieve the vehicle. Glass was shattered throughout the highway with car parts and sharp metal littering the roadway. The pursuing Police and Sheriff's Department units secured a wide perimeter, shutting down the northbound section of Great Ocean Highway and the approach to Route 68.

  • The Los Santos Emergency Medical Services were contacted to assist with the three heavily injured individuals while officers did their best to provide first aid. A fire truck was dispatched as gasoline and oil started to leak and pool on the road surface. EMTs and Paramedics soon arrived while the fire crew dispersed sawdust over the roadway and cleared any danger from the spilled fuel and oil. Unfortunately one suspect succumbed to their injuries on scene, another was taken to Mount Zonah for treatment before being taken into custody while one civilian was treated for their extensive wounds and later released in stable condition from Mount Zonah hospital. An illegal firearm was also recovered during the investigation on the scene.
