What is parole?
  • The parole program is a form of post-conviction relief, the goals are to promote reformation, rehabilitation, smooth social reintegration, and prevent reoffending. This is done through a conditional release with additional terms set and conditions that if violated will result in rearrest. By offering early release in exchange for good behavior, parole is meant to make the transition from confinement to freedom easier.
Am I eligible?
  • Due to parole being endowed on a case-by-case basis, and a unique interview being conducted with every conceivable parolee, our eligibility criteria is mostly decided by the parole deputy. Below are some examples of what will be considered by the parole deputy when making an assessment:
    • The charges you have been convicted for, and correspond them against the government ineligible index.
    • Your previous convictions.
    • Internal information about your (previous) arrest(s)
    • Your behavior while confined.
    • The circumstances of your arrest.
    • (Criminal) associations.
    • Employment status
    • The suitability of your residence/support network
What terms do I have to abide by.
  • This is once again determined on a case-by-case basis. There are several terms that can be set for a parolee. The following list shows some examples of terms that could or will be set for a parolee.
    • How long you are on parole (conventionally 1-2 weeks).
    • Additional convictions resulting in failing the program.
    • A requirement to attend a certain amount of parole meetings.
    • Refraining from contacting the parolee’s victim(s) or criminal associate(s).
    • A ban from certain areas or places.
    • Contacting CRU for professional help
How do parolee's receive parole?
  • If an inmate is interested in parole, they should contact the nearest SADoC Correctional Officer for them to contact the Detention and Parole Bureau. Our Agent's/Parole deputies will then travel down to the SADoC, and ensure the inmate is eligible for parole. If they are eligible, they will be taken through a short (10 minutes) interview with the parole deputy. If successfully passed, they will be freed from prison on parole under the terms stated.
