The Los Santos Police Department aims to protect and serve each and every citizen of the city of Los Santos individually, equally, and respectfully. Through this release, you will be shown how to interact with a Police Officer, both generally and in specific scenarios and situations. As the Los Santos Police Department strives to establish a strong bond with every member of the community we know that you, the citizen, can tremendously influence this bond for the better by familiarizing yourself with the Los Santos Police Department.
PRESENTATION
  • A Police Officer should always remain courteous, professional, and respectful when assisting and speaking to you. Remaining courteous, professional, and respectful can go both ways as well and will usually result in a pleasant interaction no matter what. Los Santos Police Department employees are to held to a very high standard, how moral, that practical.

Your interaction with a Police Officer is highly dependent on the way you act, and the way you behave as an individual during these interactions. A Police Officer will and must maintain a professional image during each and every interaction, but also has to be stern in order to protect others and preserve evidence. The more courteous you are, the friendlier the Officer can be towards you.

  • No matter when, where, and under which circumstance you interact with a Police Officer, that being during a traffic stop or a welfare check, a Police Officer will always maintain the image he is supposed to hold as a peace officer. A nice word will take you a long way, as it would normally anywhere.

It is imperative that you know that you are entitled and have the right to remain silent, and that anything you say can and will be used against you. You have the right to a Government-appointed attorney present during legal questioning. These are the rights given to you by the State of San Andreas that you may refer to at any point in time.
INTERACTION
  • Interacting with a Police Officer should be an easy task no matter what your request may be. If you plan on reporting a crime, getting information on a certain subject, or expressing your concern on a specific topic you should always be open and relaxed as there is no reason not to be. Police Officers are not menacing, nor are they out to hurt you as that is against our core values. Each and every Police Officer is trained to handle any situation, no matter how complex, either through fieldwork or class teachings. On the contrary, should you become worked up or fail to follow instructions, the Officer will have to react sternly and do what is within their power to protect their scene.

Here, the processes for the most common interactions you may have with a Police Officer are outlined.
    • A traffic stop is the most routine stop or interaction you will ever have with a Police Officer. Remain seated, have your engine off, have your hands visible, prepare your documentation if possible and ask any questions you might have when the Police Officer arrives. Each and every traffic stop has a reason behind it and it should be disclosed in a timely manner, but you are required to provide your identification prior to being informed of the reason for the stop. Should a citation come as a result of the traffic stop you are also supposed to be informed of the reason behind it, the monetary value of the citation, and the 72-hour payment grace period. An important note is that you should always inform the peace officer you are interacting with that you are armed, if you in possession of a firearm to avoid unnecessary troubles - the firearm license regulation obligates each and every firearm carrier to follow the mentioned procedure.

    • Obtaining your vehicle from the impound is as easy as it gets. You are only required to provide your identification along with a corresponding license which is supposed to be valid to retrieve your vehicle. Details on the procedures and regulations surrounding the impound can be found in the following release, Impound & You.
      -
    • A walk-in or a wave-in is a civilian who calls a Police Officer or approaches them during regular duties to seek assistance. 911 is an emergency line that connects the Los Santos Police Department to you, the civilian, that you may use at your own discretion for emergencies. If you ever have something to report or have a question or a concern even you can always approach or wave a Police Officer in to assist you with anything you may need. If you are unable to or can not find a Police Officer you are encouraged to go to a nearby Police Station and await the presence of a Police Officer to assist you with any issues you might have.
  • A situation can only be escalated by the civilian and not the Police Officer. A Police Officer should never escalate a situation as a Police Officer can only base their level of force on your very own level of force. If a Police Officer escalates a situation unnecessarily or without cause they can and will face disciplinary action. More details on Officer complaints can be found in our release, here.

  • Remain truthful. Giving false information to a Police Officer is a misdemeanor offense in the State of San Andreas. You have the right to freedom of speech; it does not give you the right to lie or deceive law enforcement officials.

Stay vigilant. Arguments are for the courtroom, not the field. Arguing a criminal charge or a citation in an attempt to evade it can result in additional charges. If you feel as if the course of action a Police Officer takes is unjust, you are well within your right to forward an Officer complaint through the Internal Affairs Group who will extensively investigate each individual complaint.

Be respectful. Do not interfere with law enforcement while they are carrying out official duties. If you see a Police Officer performing a traffic stop, assisting in a motor vehicle accident or simply speaking to another civilian, please, remain respectful and do not interfere with their work unless justifiable.
CONCLUSION
  • The interaction you have with any Police Officer depends on the way you approach the interaction yourself. A Police Officer of the Los Santos Police Department is trained and is supposed to interact with everyone in a professional and respectful manner no matter what. However, we have priorities, procedures, and protocols that we have to follow which in some cases will not allow for us to fully assist you, or assist you in a way that you would deem satisfying. Just know that if you are courteous, we will go as far as we can to assist you.
