The employee of the month award is given out to the employee at LSEMS who most accurately represents the ideal person, both in terms of their work ethic and responsibility, as well as, their drive to improve. The employee of the month at LSEMS is a prime example of the standards that we uphold and should be considered a role-model for others to follow.

We got the man himself for some questions regarding his time at the LSEMS and here are some of his responses during an interview conducted by our one and only Vivianna Rovigatti!
How do you feel about being the employee of the month?
I think it has always been an interesting concept to be nominated for EOTM. I was EOTM twice before and to get it my first month of coming back, really shows that they appreciate the work from people. I sometimes feel it's a bit unfair to give it to me since I have it twice before. There are a lot of hard-working employees whose work goes unnoticed.

What is your favorite thing about working for LSEMS?
My favorite thing about MD is seeing my coworkers thrive. Being in a position like a field training lets you see all the new EMR's that come into LSEMS. My favorite thing is seeing them work hard and get promotions. There were many lead paramedics that I have trained when I was first in the FTO program. The people we work with are also some of the best. I remember working with the Director of Administration Vanessa Dicks on her radio calls. Her driving was not great (bad)! We went on a 9-hour ridealong together and we learned so much about each other. This was a blast too! There is no better feeling than making friends along the way. I remember with C-5, Samantha Tenbe, all the fun we had together. During lifeguard training, we made jokes about sea urchins. She was scared of doing her interview which I did for her. We are both very close now.

What do you find most challenging at LSEMS?
I think the most challenging part of LSEMS is working when you are alone. We have a fantastic team who all possess the skills to help the citizens of Los Santos. The hardest thing is to get to all the calls by yourself. Everyone works hard but it still is tough. Some days it makes you question if you want to clock in.

What have you gained from working at LSEMS?
Wow, there is no easy way to answer this question. I have gained almost everything I have today from working at LSEMS. I was always interested in working in Human Resources, and I was given that opportunity. I have been in friendships and relationships through MD. I also have learned how to work with many different people within the field training program.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within LSEMS, whose job would you want and why?
If it was my choice, I would switch with Head of Human Resources. It was always a dream job for me to be involved with applications and helping new people. My position now lets me do that but I think of both positions as equally important.

What drew you to LSEMS originally? And how was LSEMS changed since?
The first thing that drew me to working in LSEMS, way back in the beginning of last year, was to try working a job I was not comfortable with. I had some basic experiences but I was fresh out of college and looking for something to do. While working under different chiefs, you quickly learn of changes. Back then, we used to have a lot of employees who liked doing their job. Now, we have the same work ethic but with less employees, which drains out employees faster. I left LSEMS for a few reasons the first time. I was upset I did not get chief. I was working 70 hour weeks and it felt like my progress was going no where. I also was drained out from working too much. With every chief I have worked under, there has been no "this is perfect" moment. Small changes have been made here and there, but some major changes were removing lifeguard as a division and forensics. Back when I was in LSEMS the first time, I was expected to take on Head of Lifeguard. Lifeguard at the time was a big inspiration for me as it was a job I loved. Now, we are slowly getting back into that mindset.

With each month, our press release focuses on a different health concern that affects the public. And although car crashes technically aren't a health concern to the public, they are a hazard to the public health

Gunshot wounds are no laughing matter, these are serious wounds even if you only get grazed by a bullet. There are a lot of different calibers that can be fired from a variety of guns. The biggest thing that you can do to increase your chance of making it out of injury is to stop the bleeding as fast as possible if you have any sort of cloth is to wrap it very tightly to slow the bleeding down. Another thing that you can do is if you have a belt to make a tourniquet. Tie the belt between your heart and your limb as tightly as you can. Please call the medics as fast as possible to help you.
