2020 has finally come to a close and now is the time where we look back and reflect on everything that went on throughout this hectic year. We have expanded the number of buildings accessible and introduced new divisions and had a transition in leadership with a whole change to our Office of the Chief and different leadership positions within.

Throughout the year we have had a crazy time developing the department as a whole. This article is going to be a summary of what has gone down in only the past year. From statistics about the department to the new Harper Clinic that is currently under construction.

We at the LSEMS and the Public Relations division hope you enjoy taking a look at what went on during the 2020 year!

Chief of EMS
There has been plenty of Chiefs of the LSEMS throughout the years but our newest Chief of EMS is Nicole Crawford. After the resignation of our previous Chief of EMS, the position was put up for application by the Commissioners of the state. Chief Crawford came in guns blazing. She has worked with our amazing team of new employees at LSEMS to continue its prestigious past times. From all the way back in 2019 she worked her way from EMT to Lieutenant before returning to us becoming our brand new Chief hopefully for a long time improving on our amazing divisions, and inspiring new and old employees alike. Once being part of our Human Resouce division as well as creating the Advanced Medicine division we know today as well as being the Director of Special Operations Congratulations and best of luck Chief Crawford!

Assistant Chief of EMS
Assistant Chief is one of those that not a lot of people really think about right away, it always is straight to the Chief but this couldn't be further from the truth. There have been a few Assistant Chiefs within the past year but currently, this position was taken on by the one and only, Kevin Grabber. Starting off his LSEMS journey all the way back in March 2019, he has gone through the ranks twice, becoming Assistant head back on the 21st of September 2019. He took a small break and then returned as a Paramedic on the 2nd of February 2020, then again taking on the position at the end of 2020 in October after working back through the ranks. He is a light for all of us at the LSEMS and has always and will always be a positive outlook for anyone who has any questions. Congratulations and good luck Assistant Chief Grabber!

Deputy Chief of EMS
Deputy Chief of EMS is currently under the belt of one Caleb Allison, only 5 months into his LSEMS journey he has climbed from EMR to Deputy Chief of the LSEMS if that doesn't give you an insight as to how hard of a worker he is here is a little more information for you. Mr. Allison has the nickname "Paper Pusher", he was a vital role within Human Resources and worked tirelessly helping the division eventually becoming the Head of Human Resources. Shortly after this, he was appointed as the Director of Administration due to his hard work and dedication. Caleb has worked hard his entire time being with EMS and is now making the whole of the department that much better! Congratulations and good luck Deputy Chief Allison!

Human Resources
Human Resources is the backbone of the LSEMS that keeps us up and running no matter what. They are the division that processes and screens in new applicants to come and join our family that we all try so hard to keep going no matter what happens. Over the past year, they have processed hundreds of applications and chosen only the best to come work with us. The HR division has grown its numbers substantially in the past year allowing us to hire more people and get their applications and contracts signed with ease. Russ Stax has stepped up to the plate and is the head of this division leading it strong and making sure everyone feels right at home.

A quote from Russ Stax about the Human Resources Division is as follows
Russ Stax wrote:HR should be every organization's killer card. What could possibly be more important than hiring people? However, when it comes to recruitment, we never fall short of recruiting, maintaining, and growing our workforce.

Basic Life Support
Basic Life Support is one of those things that everyone should know and be able to use out within the city. We all know wild things happen, thus why this division is so important. Over the course of the last year, there have been several Heads of this division currently being lead by Matt Tezla. This division has seen some slow times but over the course of the last few months of 2020, it has grown its numbers and began holding classes weekly for all of the citizens to attend. Another addition is the change in restrictions, now no one is turned away from getting BLS no matter their past mistakes.

A quote from Matt Tezla about Basic Life Support Division is as follows
Matt Tezla wrote:Teaching the citizens BLS is more important than paying off your speeding tickets.

Public Relations
This is one of those divisions that have gone through tons of Heads and has been named many different things, from Media Relations to Communications to its current name, Public Relations. This division is in charge of putting on events internally and for the public as well as putting out press releases for the citizens to look at and learn what is going on in the LSEMS. One of the new things that the Public Relations division has started to do is run the Life Invader page and posting more often on there. The current head of the PR division is Matt Tezla and he is working alongside the Director of Administration as well and High Command to get everything flowing smoothly and pumping out amazing events and content for you all.

A quote from Matt Tezla about Public Relations Division is as follows
Matt Tezla wrote:Public Relations is good for one thing... Lots of papercuts... does anyone know a medic?

Advanced Medical Division
For those employees of the LSEMS that want to go a step further they can join the Advanced Medical Division. This is for all of your surgery and Forensics needs. AMD employees are able to research new surgeries and publish their work within our handbook. The current head of the Advanced Medical Division is Charles "Yessir" Kajinski, he has worked tirelessly on building this division up alongside a team of dedicated and hard-working employees. Many of which have researched countless surgeries and have been helping people from cancer to severely fractured bones. Along with learning about medicine and how to prescribe it for various conditions that come walking through the doors.

A quote from Charles Kajinski about the Advanced Medical division is as follows
Charles Kajinski wrote:Medicine is our lawful wife and research our mistress; when we get tired of one, we spend the night with the other

Field Training Program
What I would consider one if those valuable divisions of LSEMS, the Field Training Program is what makes our newest applicants full-fledged EMT's ready for everyday operations. The trainers are hard-working and dedicated to help teach and inspire the new generation of medics within Los Santos. Not only does this division train EMR's but it also helps select the new teachers that are going to be instructing these new recruits and helps build up their confidence in teaching. This division is currently under the supervision of Frost Black who has done nothing but great things in continuing the development of a program as old as the LSEMS as a whole. This division will continue to grow and help teach our amazing EMR's.

A quote from Frost Black about Field Training Program Division is as follows
Frost Black wrote: I am confident that 2021 will maintain the same success and continue to produce a quality EMT force for the citizens of Los Santos to be aided by!

Pyschology
Pyschology also know as our Crisis Response Unit Division is known for various amount of responsibilities, anything from helping people not in the correct mental state to helping diagnose and treat different mental disorders. The CRU division also has a wide array of public services available to anyone such as therapy sessions and helping diagnose and treat anything that might be going on in your brain. CRU is currently headed by Samantha Tenbe who has put countless time into the division creating new procedures and helping advance the program to a new level wrapping up the end of 2020.

A quote from Samantha Tenbe about Crisis Response Unit Division is as follows
Samantha Tenbe wrote:If you were able to believe in Santa for like 8 years, you can believe in yourself for like 5 minutes

Fire & Rescue
The Fire Department has had many leaders over the past year and many of them did a fantastic job at building the division up to be one of the best divisions in the LSEMS, due to some unforeseen issues, the fire department was left to burn away to ash. Until our new Head of Fire & Rescue, Paramedic Maverick McCumming took the reigns. You could compare it to something of a Pheonix rising from the ashes to start anew. This is going to be in big development in 2021. With a new head of the division and help from all of the previous Fire Chiefs, the Fire & Rescue division will be better than ever, no fire is safe. A small rundown of what the Fire & Rescue Division handles varies from car accidents, building fires, homemade drug labs, and anything else that deals with fires or rescues from hard to get places.

A quote from Maverick McCumming about the Fire and Rescue Division is as follows
Maverick McCummin wrote:Fire bad, Fire hurt

Air & Rescue
The Air & Rescue division has always been one that people aim to join when they first join the LSEMS, it has gone through two division heads. The current head of Air & Rescue is Miguel Fernando and he has worked tirelessly on maintaining this division and holding it to the utmost standards. In the new year, he is working to create a mountain training program so our medics are more capable for off-road and dangerous terrains that we encounter in the northern part of the state. With the new safety features added to our Buckingham Swifts, we can now use these majestic vehicles for regular calls as well as calls out in the ocean.

A quote from Miguel Fernando about the Air and Rescue Division is as follows
Miguel Fernando wrote:To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home.

Over the course of the year, there were several divisions that are no longer and have been retired in the LSEMS or have changed how they work in the LSEMS. Here is a list of these divisions as well as a short description of what they did and what happened to them.
  • Internal Affairs - Currently transitioned from a division that was tasked to deal with the various IA reports, to the High Command of LSEMS dealing with IA Reports
  • Finance - This division no longer exists, it was tasked to deal with the various financial aspects of LSEMS such as Ads, Events, Payment, and keeping track of the budget of the LSEMS
  • Forensics - A division originally developed as a branch of Advanced Medical Division has turned into certifications members of the Advanced Medical department can now get.
  • Audit - This department was used to check over the divisions with a lot of paperwork and give them helpful feedback in order to keep everything organized and professional. This division was retired from the LSEMS
  • Lifeguard - This division is was an awesome division that was in charge of everything water safety, from beach patrols to water testing. This division is now a certification under the new Fire & Rescue department that is getting redeveloped during the new year.

Over the course of the 2020 year, there has been a lot of new employees, training sessions, and our BLS courses. This section is going to go over the different statistics from the past year of LSEMS. A new thing we are going to be doing during 2021 is to be tracking all of the statistics for each month's press release. The Public Relations team has gone through all of our files for the course of 2020 and these are some of the statistics we have gathered!

During the past year there have been plenty of high notes and a good amount of things that could have been better. As a department, we would like to give a big thanks to all of the citizens of Los Santos for allowing us to operate smoothly and to help all of you each and every day. Between all of the people who have come and gone in the LSEMS in 2020, we are still striving for perfection to make sure you all get the best treatment in Los Santos. Here's to the new year hoping for the best from the LSEMS to you.
