All forms of affection, of any nature, are never limited within a single and narrow dimension. They are expressed and felt in millions of moments of serenity and love every second.

We hear it all the time, but I think it would be beneficial to consider its true meaning. In the midst of our hectic lives, just taking a brief minute to breathe and appreciate a basic human needβ€”love and connectionβ€”is all we need. And thatβ€˜s exactly why the proud members of the San Andreas Department of Corrections (SADOC) team celebrate and recognize Pride Month each year.

Since its inception, every June, Pride Month is a time to show our love, raise our voices, and remember the history of the LGBTQ+ community.

No lack of knowledge regarding the terminology or the background should be a barrier if it all feels unfamiliar. In essence, Pride is about a willingness to learn. Offering to be there, listening, and accepting people exactly as they are is all that is needed. An open mind is all it takes.

Loosely, it is an acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and the ”+” sign makes sure that the whole wonderful variety of human identification is acknowledged.

We all hope you take advantage of this time to learn something new, but even more so to take those lessons with you for the rest of the year, long after the month of June is past. Solidarity is not a seasonal phenomenon, so celebrating our community now and perpetuating bias throughout the rest of the year misses the point altogether.

Here at the San Andreas Department of Corrections, we promote, honor, and boost individuality. Whatever our identity as a community or part of it, we accept it with pride as confident companions working toward our historic goals, fully prepared for any adversities still to come.

Corporal Alialdeen Alsirhani wrote: Senior Officer Vice is an exceptional officer. He hasn't been with us in the DOC for long, but even so, his achievements are equal to those of officers who have been here for a while. He definitely is an asset to the DOC and deserves recognition.

Q: How does it feel to be recognized as Employee of the Month?
It is an honour to be recognised as Employee of the Month. I take pride in the work I do every day, and it is rewarding to know that my efforts have had a positive impact on both the department and my fellow officers. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues and leadership team.

Q: What has been your proudest moment this month?
My proudest moment this month has been helping maintain a professional and efficient environment within the facility while supporting fellow officers whenever needed. Being able to contribute to the success of the department and assist others in achieving their goals has been especially rewarding.

Q: What motivates you to perform at your best each day?
What motivates me most is the responsibility that comes with the role. Every day presents opportunities to make a positive difference, support my team, and uphold the standards of the department. Knowing that others rely on me encourages me to give my best effort every shift.

Q: What advice would you give to other officers in the department?
Stay professional, remain consistent, and always be willing to learn. Treat everyone with respect, support your fellow officers, and don't be afraid to take initiative when opportunities arise. Small efforts every day can make a significant difference over time.

⭐ RISING STAR AWARD | NALA RUSSO
───── ⋆ ⭐ ⋆ ─────
The Rising Star award is presented to an individual who, whilst earlier in their career within the department, has shown a level of growth, initiative, and dedication that sets them apart from their peers. Nala Russo has done exactly that. Since joining the department, Nala has demonstrated a strong work ethic, an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to step up when it counts. Their progress has been noticed by command staff and fellow officers alike, and it is with great enthusiasm that we present this recognition.

The San Andreas Department of Corrections looks forward to watching Nala Russo continue to grow and flourish within this department.
πŸ“‹ OFFICER Q&A β€” NALA RUSSO

Q: How does it feel to receive the Rising Star award?
It’s an absolute honor to be recognized so early in my time with SADOC. Joining the department, my main goal was just to put my head down, learn the ropes, and do my job right. To know that the command staff and my fellow officers have noticed that effort is incredibly motivating, and it makes me proud to wear the badge every single day.

Q: What has been your biggest learning experience since joining the department?
The biggest takeaway for me has been learning how fast things can change inside the facility and how crucial clear, decisive communication is under pressure. You quickly realize that you have to trust your training, keep your composure, and know that your team always has your back when things get demanding.

Q: Who has inspired or supported you the most since joining?
Honestly, it’s hard to name just one person because the entire shift and command team have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. The senior officers are always willing to answer questions and pass down their experience. It really feels like a tight-knit family here, and that kind of environment naturally pushes you to do your best.

Q: Where do you see yourself going within the department?
Right now, my focus is entirely on mastering my current duties and continuing to build consistency. Long-term, I definitely want to step into more specialized leadership roles and eventually help train incoming rookies, giving back to the department the same way the current team helped me when I first started.
