- Hello and welcome to the May 2026 Sheriff's Newsletter. Did you know that June is the most popular wedding month? or that bees can visit thousands of flowers in a single day during peak June blooming season? Most importantly, it's pride month! You can expect to see deputies supporting the movement with fun colored hair, personalised pride uniforms and vehicles wrapped in the colors of the rainbow.
In this newsletter, you will see the rank adjustments that took place in the month of May, the monthly message from the sheriff, an interview with the deputy of the month and which fictional character that would make the best sheriff!

- The month of May has been one for the record books and as predicted the warmer weather has brought more people out and about, some for the good and some for the bad. I hope everyone is enjoying the end of Spring as we transition into Summer. Remember to wear your seat belt, drive sober, and drive safe!

As an update to the Sheriff's Department, it appears gang violence is on the incline and we are committed to addressing this on the frontline to bring about a greater sense of security for those who just want to live a peaceful life, or run businesses, without the constant fear of being robbed or murdered. We will continue be a force of resistance to those who prey on our community, and will hold them accountable.
As we look into June, I am excited as this marks the beginning of Pride Month. The Sheriff's Department remains a committed partner to the LGBT+ community, as we do year-round. We look forward to participating in any of the Pride month themed events this year, as we have done in the years past. You will also see a number of our Deputies wearing our Pride uniform.
June also contains Father's Day. As we did last month, if your Father is still with you, make sure to spend some time honoring your father, take him out for dinner or a sporting event!
In closing... Remember, "Professionalism isn't measured by the easy calls we answer, but by how we handle the difficult ones."

- Deputy Sheriff Martini joined the Sheriff's Department in early 2025. During their time within the department, they have proven to be loyal to their colleagues and a solid deputy in the field. They are currently a member of the Traffic Services Detail, Recruitment and Employment Bureau and the Field Training Bureau. We're proud to see the journey deputy Martini has had in the department, and wish him all the best of luck in his future endeavors. Congratulations on being appointed the Deputy of the Month for May 2026!

What is your favorite thing about being a deputy at the LSSD?
Cliche, I know, but working with the other members of our department. The LSSD makes it clear that we pride ourselves in camaraderie, and you really feel that out in the field. When things get tough, knowing the deputies to your left and right have your back means everything. Also, I tend to prefer patrolling Blaine County. Beyond the open roads and the change of pace from the city, I genuinely love the community out here.
What is your most memorable moment while serving as a deputy for the LSSD?
The most memorable moment was my very first Code-1 situation. I remember it occurring while i was a trainee. A gang fight erupted nearby Sand Station and the deputies quickly mobilized and defused the situation. I quickly witnessed and learned how efficient the department operates. It motivated me to to emulate what I had seen.
Was there a career setback you faced that you later realized was an advantage?
I actually had been discharged back during my stint in the Field Training Program. This was done due to a lack of good communication on my part in finishing the sessions within a reasonable time frame. I took the situation like a splash of cold water, but I later realized it was an advantage. Since then, I have focused on having much better communication and higher quality paperwork.
What goals do you have for your tenure within the Sheriff's Department?
Since I first started with the department, my long-term goal has always been to eventually join DD. I’ve just always had a big passion for forensic science and the way detectives work a case. Aside from that, I really want to keep putting work into the Traffic Service Detail. It was the first division I joined, and I still love it. I know DD and SEB get most of the glory, which makes sense, but TSD is honestly super underrated. We play a huge role in highway enforcement, and I want to help make sure our deputies are some of the most capable units on the road, especially when it comes to handling pursuits and scene management.
What advice do you have for someone new to the department?
Keep your head up, and know that someone always has your six.
