Los Santos: On September 13th, the Los Santos Police Department marked a significant and momentous day, celebrating a promotion and addition to the team of Staff Officers, seeing a change to the Department's upper-level leadership in a long vacant position.
Jason Steel has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, assigned as the Commanding Officer, Detective Bureau. In this position, Deputy Chief Steel is assigned to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Department's Detective Bureau, which houses the Major Crimes Division, Gang and Narcotics Division, and Detective Support Group, and is at the forefront of the criminal investigations of the Los Santos Police Department.
Deputy Chief Steel has previously served in a plethora of roles and assignments within the Detective Bureau, most notably during his tenure as the Commanding Officer, Gang and Narcotics Division, and more recently, in the position of Commanding Officer, Detective Services Group, throughout which Deputy Chief Steel and his team built the services group from the ground up into a functioning system that now oversees the handling of incoming police reports and detective training.
Steel is a long-term, decorated veteran officer of the Los Santos Police Department, starting his career as early as December 29, 2018, when he successfully graduated from the Los Santos Police Academy and saw enrollment in the field training program, a program from which he graduated no less than two weeks later, seeing promotion to Police Officer I on January 14th, 2019. For the next couple of months, Steel continued to serve with the Department and saw a quick rise through the ranks, being promoted to Police Officer III on March 13th, 2019. It is on April 15th, 2019, that Jason's specialization and next steps became clear, with his promotion to Detective I. He rose through the detective ranks fast and quickly built himself a reputation as the tip of the spear of the Department's anti-gang unit, reaching Detective III on August 11th, 2019. Steel first reached the rank of Captain and was inducted into Department command staff on August 3rd, 2021, but through multiple brief retirements from the Department, it wasn't until October 12th, 2024, that Deputy Chief Steel became a fixture of command staff, with his re-introduction to the position of Captain. With the departure of the bureau's previous commanding officer, Jason was appointed on a trial basis on July 8th, 2025, and was promoted to Commander. He continued to serve in this role until September 13th, when he was promoted to Deputy Chief and now permanently holds the role of Commanding Officer, Detective Bureau.
While he's not working, Steel enjoys resting at home, particularly with lasagna made by his wife, an esteemed detective with the Department, but he also enjoys eating out, has an affinity for carrots, enjoys frequent vacations to an island named Kamona, is rumored to have a brother named Johnny who has been an astronaut, doctor, and officer, and it is believed by his peers that his favorite color might be green.
We congratulate Jason Steel on his promotion and are excited for his continued leadership.
