Q&A with Cadet Cliff Ryder

Q: What made you want to join the Los Santos Police Department?
A: I want to help and serve my community. I’ve always had a passion for helping people from a young age, and this position allows me to do just that.

Q: How was the application and hiring process for you? Were there any challenges?
A: Very smooth. The biggest challenge was getting used to the paperwork. If you have patience, it turns out well in the end.

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of your time as a cadet so far?
A: Being welcomed into a team with open arms and receiving training from officers of all ranks and backgrounds. The sense of community and family in the department is absolutely wonderful. In most places, it takes time to feel truly included, but here, it happened right from the beginning.

Q: How has mentorship from senior officers helped you prepare for your evaluation?
A: The hands-on approach has contributed the most to my success as a cadet.

Q: What's the best advice you've gotten from someone on the team?
A: Calm down, take your time—it all comes with practice. That advice came from Officer Rio Castillo. The other day during a pursuit, he told me to go fast, but not too fast. He reminded me to take a breather. Pursuits can be overwhelming, but his advice helped me stay focused.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering joining the LSPD?
A: Patience and dedication are key. Patience, patience, patience. Don’t give up—it’s a long learning process, but if you stick with it, you’ll get it down, you’ll learn, and you’re going to thrive.

Q: What are your goals after becoming a full-fledged officer?
A: I want to eventually join METRO SWAT. SWAT because I want to be involved in keeping our city safe from the most severe criminals and high-stakes situations.
