    Sheriff Bobby Kirk
March was another strong month for the Sheriff’s Department, and I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your continued dedication and service to our community. The hard work and professionalism of our deputies and staff ensure that our department runs smoothly day in and day out.

Not much has changed operationally, and things continue to function as expected. Our mission remains the same, and we will continue to serve with integrity and commitment.

I would like to take a moment to congratulate Tom Brown on his well-earned promotion to Captain, Leif Helgarson on his promotion to Lieutenant, and Clay Thompson on his promotion to Staff Sergeant. Their leadership and experience will no doubt strengthen our department even further.

Additionally, we extend a warm welcome to the recent transfers from the LSPD. We are glad to have you on board and look forward to the skills and experience you bring to our team.

April is shaping up to be another productive month, and I have no doubt that we will continue to meet the high standards we set for ourselves. Thank you for your service, and thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter, put together each month by our outstanding Sheriff’s Information Division.

Stay safe and keep up the great work.

DEPUTY OF THE MONTH
  • Image
    Deputy Sheriff III Tim Sutton
Deputy Sheriff III Tim Sutton graduated from the Sheriff's Department's Academy on the 30th of November 2024. During their tenure within the department, they have proven to be a valued and trusted employee, especially within the Sheriff's Information Division. For their hard work and efforts, we are proud to announce Deputy Sutton as the Deputy of the Month for March 2025.

What is your favorite thing about being a deputy at the LSSD?
It sounds like a cheesy response, but my favorite thing is the people in LSSD. Everyone has their own job, but everyone is always happy and willing to help anyone else if they need it. No matter who, when, or where, people in the sheriff's department will be there to help and support each other. There's always good, friendly banter between everyone, but they've always got your back no matter what happens.

What is your most memorable moment while serving as a deputy for the LSSD?
I wouldn't consider it a good memory, but it's definitely the most memorable. Through my training, I was involved in several situations leading up to and including Operation Kutte Throat. That time in LSSD was very much a learn-quick or get-killed time in my life. I'm still here, so it worked out.

Was there a career setback you faced that you later realized was an advantage?
I've been a member of LSSD for just about four months. I don't feel like I've had a career setback. I'd love to get more involved in other departments, but I'm trying to pace myself and not bite off more than I can chew.

What goals do you have for your tenure within the Sheriff's Department?
My two big goals are to be promoted to a supervisory position within the Traffic Services Detail and be accepted into the Sheriff's Investigation Bureau.

What advice do you have for someone new to the department? / Is there a quote that motivates you?
I'll combine these two questions into one. Lieutenant Cliff Derringer gave me great advice: "Push to be the best of your rank in the department. Be known by others as the best trainee, Deputy Sheriff I, or Deputy Sheriff II, and the rest will fall in place." I've tried to follow that advice as best I can, and I think it's great advice for anyone in any position.
PRESS RELEASE

JOINT OPERATION BETWEEN LSSD AND LSPD LED TO SHUT DOWN OF A DRUG LAB

  • Blaine County: The LSSD joined forces with the LSPD and conducted a successful raid of a quarry drug lab. The operation resulted in 5 arrests with seizure of military grade weaponry and narcotics with combined value of $400 000, showing how the Los Santos State successful combats illegal drug production and drug trafficking. Unfortunately, the operation had two casualties - one LSPD officer and one suspect.

    Drug Lab Discovery
The Los Santos Police Department's Detective Bureau conducted an investigation targeting large criminal organizations, which led them towards the location of a quarry by the Señora freeway and were able to confirm a presence of equipment used for drug production and presence of personal operating them while being heavily armed with automatic weapons and illegal body armor. The armed criminals were affiliates of The regiment illegal organization. The investigating units then reached out to the LSSD for additional Special Enforcement units to successfully conduct a raid at said location.

    Flawless Execution
The Los Santos Sheriffs department Special Enforcement units and the Sheriffs' investigation bureau units along with Los Santos Police Department METRO units and Detective Bureau units gathered nearby and then entered the location. The occupants of the illegal drug lab were issued commands to surrender, which they refused to comply with, and instead of that initiated gun fire. The units on scene were immediately shot at and engaged in a fierce gun fight with heavily armed criminals from an organization known as Regiment. After a precise and coordinated push of the tactically advantageous position of the criminals, SED and METRO units were able to clear the location and neutralize all 6 suspects who engaged in the gun fight. Units started providing them with medical care right away, unfortunately one suspect received injuries which caused him to pass away. The units on scene then discovered a dead body belonging to a sergeant from the LSPD, who was murdered during the gun fight by the latter arrested suspects.

    Lieutenant Cliff Derringer
    Lieutenant Derringer, the man in charge of the Special Enforcement Operators on scene, describes the operation as;

"Suspects were armed with a variety of heavy automatic weapons and Kevlar, but suppressing them was an easy feat. Criminal organizations lack the tactical understanding and know-how to properly defend or engage forces who have many levels of superior training over them. While communications could have been better on initial entry, everyone pitched in to bring the situation to a swift and decisive end. I would say while the operation was an overall success, having it come at the cost of an officer is always a price never worth paying. It reminds us that we must always strive to find a better way to engage the enemy in a way that sees EVERYONE return home safely.

    Arrests
In the end of the day, the LSPD and LSSD units on scene were able to apprehend and charge 6 suspects who were later transported to a nearby hospital and then were imprisoned in the Department of Corrections facility for their illegal firearms charges, murder charges and drug charges. Officers and deputies on the scene were able to secure multiple assault rifles, shotguns, pistols, body armor, narcotics and illegal weapons modifications. The assets seized on the scene along with the set of equipment used for producing drugs had an approximate value of $400,000.

The Sheriff's Department Continues to Combat Illegal Drug Production
The Los Santos Sheriffs department continues to combat illegal drug trafficking and drug production, targeting criminal organizations known for committing these crimes and ultimately making the streets of Los Santos State safer and lower the access of population to illegal substances, making the lower rate of addicted civilians in general population.

    Master Deputy Isaac Khalifa
Master Deputy Isaac Khalifa joined the Sheriff's Department on November 2nd 2024, They have a strong sense of teamwork and find fulfilment in serving their community. They are currently a member of multiple divisions, including the Traffic Services Detail, Special Enforcement Division and Special Enforcement Detail and have shown some great work in each of their divisions. They aspire to become a supervisor within two months and it seems likely if they continue to excel as a Deputy.

When did you join the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department?
I joined the Sheriff's Department back in November 2nd, 2024

What is your favorite thing about being a deputy at the LSSD?
My favorite thing about being a member of this department is the excitement of finally doing the job I trained for. From getting out on patrol, responding to calls, and learning from experienced deputies. Every day would bring something different, from traffic stops to high-risk pursuits into stressful scenarios.

What is your most memorable moment while serving as a deputy for the LSSD?
Without a doubt, my favorite memory is from Operation Kutte Throat, which took place on December 5, 2024. Our deputies were attacked by gang members during a big shootout at the Chilliad Tunnel. I took down seven suspects in about a minute after going all the way around the tunnel. Thankfully, we didn't lose any deputy despite the intense amount of injuries.

Why did you become a deputy for the LSSD?
Everyone should, in my opinion, try to pursue a career they enjoy, and I've been aiming to pursue law enforcement at any cost since I graduated from school.

What is the greatest feeling about being a deputy?
I appreciate the feeling of being part of a team that has my back, especially when things get intense.

Where do you see yourself in the LSSD two months from now?
I would love to see myself in a supervisor spot and I'm willing to work on it.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I have an immense passion in football, and I spend most weekends participating in matches with friends and usually watching games.
