Happy Spooky Season!
Things have been spook-tastic at Bolingbroke this month! We got into the Halloweeney mood early into October with all of the scary Halloween decorations around the penitentiary.
This month has been very busy with events and unexpected difficulty situations but through teamwork we have persevered. Most notably we've held our biggest Breast Cancer Awareness Event yet and had a few internal events, even some including the inmates!

Please enjoy reading this month's press release. We do hope it's not too spooky!
Employee of the Month
Each month here at the San Andreas Department of Corrections we like to bestow an honor on this month's best performing officer who has shown time and time again that they put maximum effort and commitment into their work. The officer selected for this prestigious award has proved themselves as a representation of how each officer working for our department should strive to be.
Employee of the Month October 2024
Questions for the Employee of the Month
We like to ask the employee of the month a few questions to get their perspective on the job and what makes a great officer, below are a few answers to common questions by our Employee of the Month:

Looking back, what are memorable achievements from your service so far?
Getting CFT Command

Moving forward what are the next goals as a SADOC officer?
Continue in the SIT program and work my way up the supervisor ranks

Any advice they would give to future prospects who might think about joining the SADOC?
Don't compete with your peers, take it at your own pace.

Visitation
Has your wife, brother, husband, sister, mother, uncle, friend, or enemy ever been arrested and brought to SADOC? Well, you can visit them!
Two Irish meeting with a Chinese
Visitation at DOC is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, including holidays!
There is a requirement for at least two Correctional Officers to be free to assist in visitation so if some aren't immediately available then feel free to come back later.

The visitation rules are as follows:
  • No physical contact
  • No whispering
  • No passing of items. Items that wish to be exchanged will be checked beforehand for contraband.
  • Maximum time is 1 hour (( 15 minutes OOCLY ))
For those that like to exploit visitation, we have a blacklist in place that restricts certain individuals, such as our MSIs, from being able to be visited or visit. Visitation is a benefit and can be declined for any number of reasons.
The Wardens 4 Year Anniversary

Congratulations to the Warden on Her 4-Year Anniversary at SADOC!

We are thrilled to celebrate Warden Kourtney on her remarkable 4-year anniversary with the San Andreas Department of Corrections! Over these four years, Kourtney has consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the mission of our organization. Her passion for her work has not only driven positive change within our facility but has also made a lasting impact on her colleagues and the individuals she serves.

We look forward to many more years of her inspiring leadership and dedication!

  • We asked Deputy Warden - Katie Schneider to write a short piece dedicated to Kourtney and this is what she had to say:
    • Kourtney and I have been working together for a long time. We have experienced many ups and downs, but I always know that we can rely on each other. I love how easy going she is and really cares about everyone in this department. She is all about giving people a chance and not judging others based on the past. She definitely deserves to be the Warden of the SADOC and I am looking forward for many more years.

  • We asked Captain - Bradley Coot to write a short piece dedicated to Kourtney and this is what he had to say:
    • Kourtney has always been a bright and positive individual within DOC and always finds a way to keep morale up when things may be looking bleak. She has always taken the time to help me when i have needed it even when she has been busy and above all she is a person that always likes to give a chance to people and this is something I have always looked to do as well.

  • We asked Corporal Mathew Drake to write a short piece dedicated to Kourtney and this is what he had to say:
    • Kourtney is one of the coolest people i've ever met, i may only be fairly new at the Department of Corrections but every time i see Kourtney she's always had a positive attitude towards life, we are so lucky that here we get to work under Warden Lafluer and it's kind of crazy that she has been here for 4 years now, she is someone to look up to, her positive attitude and leadership skills are something to admire.

Rest in Peace Andy Tyrie

In Memory of Andy Tyrie

We are deeply saddened to announce the recent passing of Andy Tyrie, who worked with our department and contributed in many ways over the years. Despite the accusations and charges he faced, we always saw Andy as a positive presence in our facility. Our team did everything we could to support and care for him during his time with us, addressing his needs and ensuring his well-being until the very end.

At the San Andreas Department of Corrections, we believe in reformation and second chances. Andy's journey was a testament to the idea that everyone deserves the opportunity for redemption. His presence will be missed by all of us, and our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Below are some thoughts and reflections from those who had the privilege of working alongside Andy. We wish his loved ones the best and extend our deepest condolences to them.
Captain Bradley Coot wrote: I had the pleasure of working with Andy at DOC, where we would often do morning shifts together. He was always a laugh, eager to learn everything he could, and brought a sense of fun to the workplace.

Andy was hardworking, determined, and always happy to help wherever he could. Though I didn’t see him much after he moved on to a different job, I was glad to be able to support him when he returned to DOC with his condition. It was important to me that he received the best help and care during his time with us.

He was an extremely brave and charismatic individual who will be sadly missed. It was an honor to have worked with him, and his memory will always be cherished.
Lieutenant Randy Lee wrote:Andy was our first legal consultant here at SADOC, and although I didn’t spend much time with him, he always had my back. He was just an email away, ready to help with any legal matter. I remember one time when I received an email from [REDACTED]. After some back and forth, I reached a point where I couldn’t understand what they needed, so I sent Andy a quick message. Without hesitation, he dropped everything, drove to SADOC, gathered the necessary documents, and sent them on my behalf.

We also shared some meaningful conversations about life and the state of the city.

I truly miss him.
Senior Correctional Officer Dan Endo wrote: I only briefly dealt with Andy while he was in our care, and I spent time with him towards the end. He was always kind and had a light about him that shocked me, considering how ill he was. I'll miss those moments of bumping into him
Rest in peace, Andy.

Phone Calls
    Image
When an inmate arrives with a brand new iFruit 69 they will have it quickly confiscated from them. However, if they wish to retain their phone till they enter the cellblock to make a phone call then they can request it.

The 10-15 can use the phone call for any number of reasons such as letting their mom know they're going to be in prison for a few years, telling their significant other to come to visit them, or getting a friend to feed their pet while they're incarcerated.

Phone calls are a privilege, not a right. Any Correctional Officer has the right to decline you for a phone call for any reason they see fit.

      Divisional Spotlight - Correctional Services
      spacer
      The Correctional Services Division
      spacer
Our divisional spotlight of the month will focus on the work of the Correctional Services (CS) division. This division plays a crucial role in ensuring that court proceedings and other events such as committee meetings are kept safe and secure for everyone involved, including the requesting party, guests, and the general public. There are three types of duties within the division, including Bailiff, Sergeant-at-arms, and general Correctional Services duties. All of these responsibilities together help to ensure that the division runs smoothly and that it covers all of the tasks required.

      What are Correctional Services?
Correctional Services covers several responsibilities and roles pertaining to ensuring various legal proceedings, meetings, and gatherings are able to be conducted safely in a secure environment. Bailiffs are primarily responsible for ensuring that such events have proper crowd control. At the front entrance to the courtroom, two or more Bailiffs will be stationed outside to ensure that the crowd is organized in an orderly fashion for public safety. They make sure that civilians who wish to attend court proceedings do not have any prohibited items. Additionally, they address court staff, watch over the courtroom, and respond to any situations that may arise in the courtroom. The Chief Bailiff will stand to the left of the Judge, with another Bailiff standing on the opposite side. They are in charge of announcing “all rise!” to open court, followed by the name of the court and the presiding judge. The Chief Bailiff is also responsible for other announcements and instructions throughout the court proceedings.

      Correctional Services Q & A
We had the opportunity to speak to Lieutenant Alex LaFleur about their time and experience in this division.
      • What role do you have in this division and what responsibilities does that entail?
        • Lt. Alex LaFleur
I'm the current Commanding Officer of Correctional Services, as the current leader of the division my main job is making sure the division is operational, making sure we are doing our duties including correctional service general duties, Sergeant-At-Arms duties and Bailiff duties, we'll receive a request for one of our services and either me or someone from my command team will make sure this request is registered and we update the information and announce to those within the division when these duties will happen, sometimes I'll be leading the Bailiff team upholding security in the courtroom so a trial can go from start to finish with as little incidents as possible, other times it will be someone from my command leading these.

Another of my jobs is to look at every situation we deal with and try to think on how we can make it better next time, more secure, for example after conversation with JB we now can block the front section of the courtroom completely to deter a civilian from trying to run up to the judge, the barrier used is usually deployed when dealing with cases where we expect civilians to be unhappy with court results.

It is also my job to look over applications for the division and see if the officer is fit for the type of duties we handle.

Lastly I would like to thank the previous leader of the division and all of the command members for supporting me with leading this division and the officers who are members of this division, without all of them the division wouldn't run so I'm thankful. I also have the intention to bring a couple more changes to the division in hopes to push it even higher but I won't spoil the details on that.
        spacer
      • What's something you wish more people knew about this division?
        • From an outside perspective it might look easy what we do on this division but it can get very stressful at times very fast depending on situations as we are handling situations away from where most of our units are.
        spacer
      • What’s your favorite part of being in this division?
        • I like doing Bailiff duties, I didn't expect that I would enjoy it but I actually do, It gives me a sense of pride when I'm standing up there being the Lead Bailiff for the session, and I'm trusted with the responsibility to keep our Judger safe and having my team there with me, I know I can count on my team and that they will do everything to keep safety and order in the court.

The Legend of Vox Machina Marathon Watch Party

On Wednesday, October 2nd, we hosted an exciting watch-along party in the cellblock featuring a marathon of The Legend of Vox Machina!

This animated series follows Vox Machina, a group of eight unlikely heroes on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark, magical forces. Inmates who demonstrated good behavior were invited to join in on the fun and enjoy the show together.

It was a fantastic opportunity for community building and entertainment!

      Image
We all gathered in the recreation room (pictured above), socializing as we watched the eight heroes in action

As the show began, the inmates were initially uncertain about what to expect, but they quickly settled in and started enjoying the marathon. Laughter, jokes, and conversations flowed, creating a genuine feel-good atmosphere between guards and inmates. It was a rare opportunity for everyone to connect, and we all discovered new things about each other. As word spread, more inmates arrived, eager to join in on the shared experience.

At SADOC, we are committed to fostering a positive environment that encourages reformation and personal growth. We believe in recognizing and rewarding good behavior, as it plays a vital role in the rehabilitation process. By maintaining a system that values accountability, respect, and well-being, we aim to keep inmates motivated and focused on their path to reintegration into society.

Our goal is to create a constructive atmosphere where individuals have the opportunity to reform and prepare for a successful future. This event is just one example of the activities we offer to inmates, including trivia, music sessions, and grass cutting.

      City wide Trick or Treat
City Wide Trick or Treat Event

We were beyond excited to be part of this year’s citywide trick-or-treat event, especially after last year’s success! With a whopping 11 companies coming together to bring Halloween to life, we knew we had to up our game and bring something truly spooktacular. We brainstormed and decided on a haunted photobooth with a graveyard theme, complete with fog machines, flickering lanterns, and chilling gravestones that set the perfect eerie scene. We even dressed up in our scariest outfits to add to the fright factor!

Visitors lined up to brave the booth, and watching everyone—from little ghosts to grown-up ghouls—pose in our spooky setup was priceless! Major shoutout to @weazel, and a special thanks to Emily for organizing such a fantastic event that brought our whole community together for some Halloween thrills and chills.
