- 3.1) Why are you interested in becoming a Court Clerk, and how does this role align with your long-term career goals, such as becoming a Judge? (100 word minimum)
- I’m interested in becoming a Court Clerk because I want to dive deeper into the legal field. Working in SADOC exposed me to a lot of the legal processes, but now I want to get more involved in the courtroom. I know this role will help me learn how courts run and how cases are handled from start to finish. I have been interested in becoming a lawyer but since the Court Clerk position opened and I saw a need for more judges I knew it was my calling. This position aligns with my goal of becoming a judge because it’s a chance to understand the legal system from an administrative side, giving me hands-on experience with laws and court proceedings.
- I’ve learned to stay organized by breaking tasks into smaller parts and setting priorities. Whether it’s paperwork or personal projects, I try to stay focused on one task at a time, which helps me avoid feeling overwhelmed. When there’s pressure, like when deadlines hit all at once, I make sure to double-check my work and stay calm to avoid mistakes.
- In college, I was part of a group project for history class where we had to create a presentation about the Civil War. We each had different topics, and it was important to coordinate who was doing what. I made sure we communicated regularly through group chats and made deadlines for each section. We divided the work evenly and helped each other out when someone needed it. In the end, our teamwork led to a solid presentation, and we got a good grade.
- Yes, in my SADOC work, I had to remain neutral every day. I couldn’t let personal feelings affect how I handled situations, especially when it came to disputes between inmates. Staying unbiased ensured that everyone was treated fairly, regardless of their background or behavior. I’ve carried this mindset with me in other aspects of life, like in group settings or discussions.
- Definitely. I’m always open to learning new things, especially when it involves something as important as the law. I know training is part of the job, and I’m ready to take it seriously. I’ve gone through extensive training in SADOC, so I’m used to the level of discipline required. I’m committed to following strict legal procedures because it’s crucial to get things right in this field.
- A good judge is fair, listens carefully to all sides, and makes decisions based on facts and law, not personal feelings. They need to be patient and open-minded but also confident in their rulings. In order to complete this I will make sure that even if I notice someone who I know is in a court proceeding I would judge fairly and unbiased. They should also have a deep understanding of the law and be able to explain their decisions clearly so everyone understands. Judges need to stay neutral while still maintaining control of the courtroom.
- I’d remind myself that my job isn’t to judge whether a law is right or wrong, but to follow the law and support the process. Even if I disagreed, I’d stay professional and make sure to follow the correct procedures. If I really had strong feelings about it, I’d explore ways to be part of the change, but only outside of my duties as a Court Clerk.
