Los Santos: The Los Santos Police Department announces an adjustment to its requirements for the Los Santos Police ride-along program, a change that will primarily affect individuals with prior criminal history.
An adjustment was made to the established requirements and a new system for disqualifications based on criminal history was implemented, following deliberations by the Department's Command Staff on the state of the ride-along program.
"After much consideration, I gathered the Department's Command Staff to deliberate on loosening the restrictions of the ride-along program with respect to criminal history, to align more with the values and views of the State on reformation," said Chief Elena Flores, "If someone is permitted to carry a firearm after a specific amount of time has passed after being criminally charged, then, within reason, they can ride along with police."
A system, currently identical to that of the Firearms Licensing Division and the requirements established for the acquisition of a firearms permit within the State, was put in place to implement waiting times specific to categories of charges. This sees charges categorized into four levels, ranging from a one-month waiting time to permanent disqualification, with permanent disqualification being appealable to the Chief of Police.
Personnel responsible for the reviewing and further handling of ride-along requests will be permitted to apply a level of discretion when reviewing requests, such as requests submitted by individuals who have a documented record of a violent history towards law enforcement, such as the murder of a government employee. Bans from the program issued to applicants may also be appealed to the Chief of Police.
Largely, however, this adjustment is expected to open the doors to the ride-along program for more individuals who previously may have been unable or ineligible to partake in the program.
Further information to clarify the ride-along process for academy students and civilian employees of the Department was added to the informational post covering the program on the website of the Los Santos Police Department. Future adjustments to the list of charges may be made to better cater to the needs of the program in the future, which will be announced if or when they are made.
