[NEWSLETTER #32] SASG Updates - June

Post by State Government »

Introduction
This last June has once again proven to be one of color and beauty, as we fully dove into Summer, celebrations of Pride took place, and overall the Community of San Andreas grew together in our shared pursuit of equality for all. We hope that everyone had an opportunity to attend one of the many Pride events throughout the State, we had a blast as you'll see in some of our photos from the month. Without further a do, here are the updates for this month:
Putting a Name to Pride
For the month of June we wanted to highlight what Pride means to our employees here at the San Andreas State Government. You'll find their statements below, thank you guys for sharing with us:
Emily Whitehorse, Chief of Staff wrote: Pride is such an important part of all of us here at the San Andreas State Government. Its about all of us accepting each other for who we are, and the important efforts those before us made to allow individual expression of ones identity. No matter who you are or how you express yourself, know that we in the San Andreas State Government accept you for you, and no one can take that away from you!
Marc Ericsson, Chief of Operations wrote: For me, pride is about being who you are. Accepting who you are and being proud of who you are. It's about saying this is me, and I am proud to be me.
Oliver Dutch, Lead Government Official wrote: Pride, and Pride Month is really a time of recognition of the great strides we've made and continue to make across the country towards increased equality for all. June is a time to reflect on those who came before us in the LGBTQ+ community who've paved the way for the progress we're making today, and a time to truly express ourselves and share with the world our commitment to our cause. I call on everyone to make this month and the ones to follow one of love, beyond just personal relationships, but a love for the community, that despite our beliefs on different issues we remain united on this one: everybody has the right to love.

PRESS RELEASE #76: Appointment of a New Chief of Operations

24th of JUNE, 2024
San Andreas State Government

Introduction
With the departure of Tyrone Cox as Chief of Operations for the San Andreas State Government in March, it's our pleasure to announce the recent appointment of DoED Director Marc Ericsson to the post. We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mr. Cox for all the hard work that he put in during his time as Chief of Operations. The Chief of Operations is responsible for ensuring that the operations of the Executive Branch and its various departments and bureaus run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. This includes reviewing requests for resources by departments, managing the government's information technology infrastructure, providing guidance and direction for government bureaus, and serving as a member of SASG High Command, and performing specialized tasks as needed.
Appointment of Marc Ericsson
Following numerous internal discussions, the Board of Governors chose to appoint Director Marc Ericsson as the next Chief of Operations on June 8th. Ericsson began his service with the State back in June of 2022, and with a brief break, quickly climbed the ranks within the then Business Licensing Bureau, now DoED, where he was appointed Director in May of 2023. Mr. Ericsson's involvement spans way beyond just BLB; he's served in numerous positions in the Administration, Public Relations, Housing, and Aviation Bureaus of the State Government, and just recently oversaw the merger of the Property and Housing Bureau with the Business Licensing Bureau to form the Department of Economic Development. His commitment to public service doesn't stop there, as he's also served as a Captain at the Department of Corrections up until January of last year.

We caught up with Chief Ericsson to learn more about his time here and his plans for the future:
Chief of Operations Marc Ericsson wrote:
Why did you originally join the SASG?

I initially joined SASG as I was looking for something new, I was working at the SADOC at the time, and I remember Sean Payne having suggested that I apply, so I did. It was one of the best decisions I've made. I have had good times here, met new people, and formed lasting friendships and I don't see myself leaving anytime soon.

What has been the most memorable part of your time here?

I think the most memorable part would have to be the formation of the Department of Economic Development. The two bureaus have always had so much compatibility, and it was always a good idea to have the two under one department. Working with other members in SASG to finally make it happen was really good.

How do you think your contributions to the SASG have impacted the State more broadly?

I have obviously spent most of my time here in SASG working within the Business Licensing Bureau, I always tried to give quick responses when citizens submitted their business-related stuff and worked on several changes that benefited citizens greatly, like the Business Rebate System that we recently implemented. I also assisted in other bureaus when needed, like SAAA when there was a low number of instructors, I agreed to assist the director at the time with the flight school training so that citizens would still be able to get their phases done. These are all for the citizens of the state, and I believe that I have made a good effort in trying to get things done to benefit them.

What are some goals you have in mind for your new position?

I hope to continue working as I have always been with the DoED until we can find someone to fill that leadership position. I also would like to work with members of our command team, assisting wherever I can to help with the smooth operation and improvement of their individual bureaus.

The Board of Governors had the following message to share on Chief Ericsson's appointment:
Board of Governors wrote: The Board of Governors is proud to see Marc Ericsson brought into the role of Chief of Operations following the strong tenure of our previous Chief of Operations. Marc has worked within the State Government since his reinstatement on the 30th of May, 2023. However, he started working as an intern within the Business Licensing Bureau (BLB) on the 12th of July, 2022. During his tenure, Marc has served the longest in this role within BLB, witnessing the Bureau grow over the years. Since then, he has contributed to many projects throughout the State Government, including holding multiple command appointments during their vacancies.

One thing that truly sets Marc apart is his strong work ethic and willingness to tackle mundane tasks even when faced with a mountain of work. Such efforts can be seen in the recently released government grant program, as well as the revamp of BLB and the Property and Housing Bureau (PHB) into one cohesive unit with the creation of the Department of Economic Development (DoED). Furthermore, his ability to act as a Swiss Army knife in many situations, such as helping out in other bureaus when needed, while still giving his all to deliver, is just another example of what makes Marc such an invaluable asset to the SASG.

We're incredibly excited for what the future has in store for this remarkable public servant and how he and the rest of SASG's incredible talent will continue to serve the people of the Great State of San Andreas.
