  • Detailed information of your request:
    • Hello,

This is in regards to an incident that happened at Legion Square Parking earlier this evening:
      Context
      Image

Speculation from eyewitnesses on-scene from the public who were on the other side of the garage claimed that the gas canisters that killed the 2 injured people and injured the medic came from LSPD officers, can you confirm or deny if this is the case?

Could you also please give any information on why there was such a large police presence for what appeared to be 1 man killed and 2 injured as more context I can edit into my post.

As always, thank you for your time to answer,
      Cobb

  • Re: Public Inquiry [Citizen]

    Thank you for this inquiry.

The LSPD had responded to a situation involving several injured individuals at Legion Square public city parking. Several units initially responded and several more were requested due to a large crowd being present to ensure any evidence was properly secured and for potential crowd control and scene management. While officers were investigating and getting the individuals involved medical assistance, a suspect in a vehicle threw tear gas canisters out of the window into the crowd, exposing several individuals in the crowd to the gas. As seen in your video, multiple police units chased what was believed to be the suspects responsible for throwing the tear gas canisters. The LSPD did not deploy tear gas at any point in this situation.

The LSPD is still currently investigating the individuals who threw the tear gas and where they may have obtained these canisters. Should anyone have any information for detectives regarding a potential source of tear gas canisters or anyone who is in possession of them, the LSPD urges them to contact an officer or put in a report and pass this information along to help apprehend the individuals responsible.

Hi Captain Breacher,

Thank you for your response, I will make additions to my post for this extra clarification. I am glad to hear the comments made about the LSPD were untrue.

Kind Regards,
Cobb
