Traffic Division's Crackdown on Illegally Parked Vehicles

Image

Recently, the Traffic Enforcement Division conducted an 'on the go' operation due to severe illegal parking. While patrolling, officers saw a very overcrowded road due to an ongoing event. Following this discovery, multiple vehicles were found in breach of VC04 - Illegal Parking. After counting all of the vehicles, a staggering ten cars were illegally parked.

Following a previous newsletter stating these violations would be enforced strictly, an operation was promptly conducted. Officers started by alerting the owner of the event on the situation outside and requested him to alert his customers to move their vehicles into a Car Park next door. After roughly 15 minutes, officers ticketed the vehicles, and those impeding traffic flow were impounded. With assistance from multiple officers within the Traffic Enforcement Division, the scene was cleaned up swiftly. By the end of the operation, the street was clear and safe again for traffic flow.

Here are some of the pictures taken of the Illegally parked cars and how you can ensure you don't get a ticket or your vehicle impounded in the future!

Example 1:
In the penal code, the law states, "In any intersection or on a crosswalk or sidewalk, except on the curb itself." This is a breach of the parking rules! So, parking on the sidewalk - such as the car here, is considered to be breaking the law.

Example 2:
This is a car obstructing a roadway. In the penal code, the law states, "In front of/blocking a public or private road, driveway, or alley." Here, we can see the vehicle has been parked in front of the entry/exit of an alleyway. This is dangerous due to possible oncoming traffic colliding with the parked car and causing an accident.

Example 3:
This car is parked on the side of the street with a red curb. The penal code states violations include "Wherever the curb is painted red or on a safety zone, where the roadway is painted with stripes." In the picture, we can see a red curb near the parked vehicle. This is enforced due to many different reasons. But on this occasion, it is due to the safety of the vehicles leaving the alleyway. When a vehicle is parked improperly, there is a risk of pulling out into oncoming traffic, potentially causing an accident.

Example 4:
Lastly, a car is pointing in the wrong direction of travel. The penal code states vehicle violations include those "Facing the wrong direction, against the flow of traffic." The main reason behind this is to ensure the safety of the oncoming traffic flow during dimly lit hours of the day. In unlit areas, parking the wrong way can be particularly dangerous as a vehicle's rear reflectors alert passing cars to the fact that they are there.
