DIVISION SPOTLIGHT | RECRUITMENT AND EMPLOYMENT DIVISION
          Recruitment and Employment Division
            • Junior Paramedic Grant Adams finished his training in the Recruitment and Employment Division, or RED, on the 29th of July 2023 and since then he's been hard at work for the division, with his exemplary dedication it took him less than two months to become the Assistant head in RED, and now since the 26th of October he has taken the position of Interim Head of the Recruitment and Employment Division.

There are currently 7 members of the Recruitment and Employment Division.
Grant is well known for his signature top hat so be sure to say hello to him if you ever bump into him.

            • The Recruitment and Employment division of LSEMS is responsible for receiving incoming applications and hiring talented individuals into the department to serve Los Santos with the EMS team. RED consists of friendly, skilled HR workers who work together to ensure a smooth hiring process.

              Insight from RED
There are many things that RED looks for while reviewing an application, so here are a few tips on how to make a good first impression with your application:
Include any skills or experience you may have, no matter how small. Even the smallest skill can make a large impact on your application!
Meet members of the team and attend LSEMS events to build connections with your future co-workers.
Do ride-alongs to learn more about the department! First-hand experience is one of the first things that we look at with an applicant.

We look forward to your application!

            MOVEMBER PARTY
              Image
                Image
                  • On Saturday the 25th November, LSEMS was invited to assist in the Movember Mustache Party at Weazel news where CRU assisted in giving out information about CRU and mental health.
The event also contained a free raffle for anyone that had a moustache. There was also a photo booth where people could take pictures over a green screen and moustaches were photoshopped in the background.
Therapist Kourtney LaFleur wrote:The event was a great way to let people know the importance of mental health and to spread Movember awareness. LSEMS hosted a breast cancer awareness last month and this was a great way to promote male issues such as mental health and prostate cancer.
It was also very funny to see lots of people with bizarre moustaches!
First Responder CeeCee Rhodes wrote: It was really cool! I had a lot of fun talking to the general public about mental health, it's great that they're showing an interest in it!

                    Image
                        Image
                        • On Sunday the 26th of November, the LSEMS PR team held an off duty internal event called Hike & Heart.
I, Alex Nieves, led the event and it started at 9 PM, Not everyone had the availability to join us but We plan to create more events like this one in the future to foster and strengthen the bond between co-workers.

We all gathered at Pillbox and once everyone coming was present and ready we departed, I decided to surprise the group with a special guest DJ Quiet, everyone was happy with the addition to the group and we departed on a bus from DCC.
Our Bus driver took us to what we had designated as the starting point for this event, at the base of Mount Gordo, and from there with our gear ready and with an eagerness to explore nature we started our hike up the mountain.
Near the top everyone started to grow tired of walking but our spirits prevailed as we forged ahead as the stunning view made it all worth it. We took a small break at the top to enjoy the view before we continued on our path now on the other side of the mountain going down.

After a couple of minutes walking we made it to the Lake in Mount Gordo and we stopped, some of us went for a dip in the water while we set up a campfire for our picnic and also the piano for our special guest to perform.
As we sat by the fire and ate some healthy food we got to enjoy a lovely piano performance from Miss Quiet, the Weather was great and so was the view as we relaxed by the warmth of the fire.

Eventually the event had to come to an end so we packed everything and made sure no fire could get started from our campfire's ashes and that no trash was left behind. With our stomachs and spirits full we continued our descend of Mount Gordo and informed our Bus driver to start heading to the meeting point. After some minutes we arrived at the base of the mountain safely and made our ways to the bus, and our event then came to its end as we arrived back at Pillbox.

                        WINTER SAFETY
                        • Winter weather has hit the shores of Los Santos and it's now very cold outside.
The wintery weather can make even simple things, such as walking to the store, incredibly dangerous so it's important to prepare and stay safe by preparing for the dangerous weather. We have written some information to help you get through this snowy period.

                          Image
                          • Going Outdoors
                            • Wrap up warm when you go outside with a minimum of three layers. This should include a vest, a shirt and a coat. More layers is recommended. Be sure to remove any wet layers if you go inside.
                            • Wear a hat and gloves (festive design recommended). Your hands and feet are the fastest parts of your body to go cold so be sure to wrap them up when outdoors.
                            • Wear walking boots and ensure that they are tied up at all times. Slipping on ice and snow can cause all sorts of bad injuries. These can be purchased from any hiking store.
                            Vehicles
Snow and ice can make vehicles incredibly dangerous to drive around in.
                            • Go to your local mechanic show and get offroad tyres installed. While tyres naturally have good grip there are specific offroad tyres that allow further grip in the snow. You may also want to bring a shovel and flashlight if you plan to try venture out at night.
                            • If at any point you intend to follow the speed limit then now is a good time as speeding can lead to many accidents. Vehicle accidents can occur very easily on the snow.
                            • If your vehicle is white then change the color, it might blend into the background and be harder for other drivers to see.
                            Homes
                            • Keep your house warm but don't place anything flammable near open fire. Please call 911 if your objects do catch fire though.
                            • Stock up on food and drink in case you get snowed in.
                            • Due to the cold weather there may be infrequent power cuts. Ensure that you have enough supplies to last a few days, especially blankets and other various items to keep your warm and fed.
                          Winter Hazards, Injuries and Illnesses
The snowy weather is dangerous but there are many others ways to hurt yourself during the winter season.

                            Nut allergies
                            • Nuts are a large part of Christmas and can cause a lot of difficulties for people that are allergic. About 2% of people have a nut allergy, some having a more severe reaction to nuts than others. You need to be careful around those with allergies. If you are allergic to nuts then you may wish to get prescribed an adrenaline injector in case you accidentally consume nut or nut products and experience anaphylaxis.

                              Symptoms of nut allergy include:
                              • Raised red bumps on the skin (hives)
                              • Tightening of the throat
                              • Runny nose
                              • Cramps
                              • Nausea
                              • Vomiting

Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction include:
                              • Difficult or noisy breathing
                              • Swelling of the tongue
                              • Swelling or tightness of the throat
                              • Difficulty talking or a hoarse voice
                              • Wheeze or persistent cough
                              • Persistent dizziness or collapse
                              • Paleness and floppiness in young children.
If you experience anaphylaxis then call 911, don't stand or walk and then administer an adrenaline injector (EpiPen usually) into the inner thigh.

                              Hypothermia
                              • It's no surprise that snow its cold. It's literally frozen water. Hypothermia is caused by exposure to cold weather for a long amount of time.

                                Symptoms of Hypothermia:
                                • Shivering
                                • Exhaustion or feeling very tired
                                • Confusion
                                • Fumbling hands
                                • Memory loss
                                • Slurred speech
                                • Drowsiness
                                Treatment for Hypothermia:
                                • Get the person into a warm room or shelter.
                                • Remove any wet clothing the person is wearing.
                                • Wrap the person in a warm blanket. The aim is to heat the center of the person's body so wrap it around their chest, neck and head.
                                • Drink warm liquids to try increase the body temperature. Do not give alcoholic drinks (even though mulled wine tastes great!).
                                • Once the person's body temperature has increased you must keep them dry and wrap their body in a warm blanket.
                                • Call 911 and get them treatment from LSEMS as soon as possible.

                                General Winter
                                • Here is some other information you should know about winter weather:
                                  • You can fall over in the snow and cause injuries to most of your body. This can range from minor slips to landing funny and causing injuries to your back.
                                  • Snowballs can have ice or rocks in them. Don't throw them at people's faces as they can really hurt.
                                  • When its cold there's not a better feeling than sitting around a warm campfire with a hot chocolate while you roast some smores however, fire is hot! If you get a little too eager with your smore-ing you could burn your fingers and cause first degree burns, or worse. First degree burns aren't fatal and barely ever require hospital treatment.
                                    • Lightly wet gauze with sterile saline and apply it to the burn to cool the site
                                    • Remove the wet gauze and wrap the wound with dry rolled gauze
                                    • Apply Aloe cream where possible.

                                          • The LSEMS requires that applicants not have any history of certain mental conditions that could inhibit performance on duty and cause further issues in the department. Exceptions can be made.
                                          • The Applicant must be clear from any recent criminal charges - some charges may be forgiven if the Applicant undergoes SADOC's Felon Reformation Program.

There are multiple felonies and charges that will set the application status as DENIED unless the applicant successfully underwent SADOC's Felon Reformation Program:
                                        • GF19 - Abuse or Desecration of Dead Human Body
                                        • SF03 - Involuntary or Vehicular Manslaughter

                                        • Drug Misdemeanours (DM)

Additionally, Firearm Possession Charges are categorized as such:
                                        • WM02 - Possession of a Class 1 Firearm - 2 months*
                                        • WF03 - Possession of a Class 2 Firearm - 6 months*
                                        • WF04 - Possession of a Class 3 Firearm - 6 months*
                                        • WF05 - Possession of a Class 4 Firearm - 6 months*

Felonies that are outside the charges mentioned above have a wait time of 6 months*.

Other Misdemeanors that are outside the charges mentioned above have a wait time of 2 months*

NOTE* The applicant may go through the San Andreas Department of Correction's Felon Reformation Program before applying and provide a reference for the recruitment personnel to review in order to shorten the wait time. Undergoing the Felon Reformation Program does not guarantee leniency, as applicants' criminal records are considered on a case-by-case basis, and on the other hand, we may be more lenient towards one-time offenders than repeat ones.
Additionally, employment with a clean track record within more lenient government-funded organizations, agencies, companies, and firms may contribute positively toward each individual case.

NOTE** Only in cases of charges that are 12 months or older, special reviews may take place for one-time offenders for charges that are otherwise entirely eliminatory. These reviews would require substantial feedback from another government-funded employer.

Should you wish to verify or get more information on the subject of criminal records and their interaction(s) with our recruitment procedures, contact ✉︎ Emilia Thalmer or ✉︎ Grant Adams.
