2. REQUEST INFORMATION
  • Detailed information of your request:
    • Hello, I have been bounced around a couple times now in attempting to gain insight into policy regarding the voluntary surrender of firearms due to malfunctions, as it is not outlined to the general public nor to members of the department itself.

Does the LSPD Firearm Licensing Division allow or accept voluntary surrenders of firearms in the event that the firearms, through no fault of the owner, become unsafe to operate, either due to wear and tear, stress failures, or other manufacturing defects? Examples of a firearm being unsafe for operation would include Out of Battery Discharges, "Runaway" firearms, repeated failure to eject / failure to feed malfunctions within short time span, and repeated firearm jamming.

      Thank you for your time.
