- Detailed information of your request:
- Hello, I was just wondering about the LSPD's Policies on Officers especially non-uniformed officers while on shift giving out their own names or showing their official badges while asked to do so by a member of the public, to ensure said citizen feels as though they are able to trust that the officer and believe they are not an impersonator saying a random number as a "Badge Number" since a member of public can't tell in the moment.

"TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE" |
- Dear @Mason Royal,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Los Santos Police Department's policies on officers providing their names and showing their badges to members of the public while on duty. To ensure the public's trust and to differentiate themselves from impersonators, non-uniformed officers are required to wear an authentic badge on their chest, belt, or around their neck. This visible identification helps citizens confirm the officer's legitimacy and fosters trust in their interactions.
Regarding your concerns with the badge number, when asked, all officers, including non-uniformed ones, are obligated to provide their badge numbers. This serves as a unique identifier that allows individuals to reference the officer's information if needed for future inquiries or reports. However, when it comes to giving out their names, the decision is ultimately at the discretion of the officer. While it is encouraged as a professional courtesy to foster transparency and accountability, the department does not mandate officers to share their names with the public during these encounters.
If you encounter someone who you believe is impersonating a police officer or are unsure about their authenticity, it is essential to prioritize your safety and take appropriate action by requesting a supervisor or calling 911.
This inquiry will stay open for another 24 hours incase you have any questions that are unclear to you at this time.
- Sincerely,

Sergeant II Rija Luigi
Assistant Commanding Officer, Media Relations Division
Los Santos Police Department
