REFORMATION OF THE VINEWOOD TRAFFIC DIVISION

On February 17th, 2023, following discussions between the Commanding Officer of the General Operations Bureau and Divisional Command, the Los Santos Police Department's Vinewood Traffic Division (VTD) was reformed into the Vinewood Patrol Division (VWPD), and the Traffic Enforcement Division (TED).
The decision to split one division into two was made to accommodate evolving needs within the Department. The Traffic Enforcement Division was previously a division under the Special Operations Bureau, before being reformed into the Vinewood Traffic Division under the General Operations Bureau to facilitate a focus on traffic enforcement through a primary assignment for officers. However, as it was a specialization of its own, members of the Vinewood Traffic Division had to commit to the Traffic specialization without the option to join other specializations. This prevented the potential recruitment of Traffic Officers to other assignments and was a strain on the retention of Traffic Officers as well.
Having Vinewood once again serve as an additional patrol division allows more officers the opportunity to advance their career and individual development within the General Operations Bureau, and gives officers the option to join other specializations while also being a member of the Traffic Enforcement Division. This is expected to benefit the recruitment of officers to other specializations and improve the retention of Traffic Officers and gives officers more freedom to choose their day-to-day activities.
The newly formed Vinewood Patrol Division is being led by its new Commanding Officer, Police Lieutenant I Alex Schill, who previously served as the Assistant Commanding Officer of the Vespucci Patrol Division. The reformed Traffic Enforcement Division is currently led by its interim Commanding Officer, Police Sergeant I Thomas Pennyworth, following the resignations of previous Divisional Command staff. The Los Santos Police Department is excited about this structural change and looks forward to seeing its officers grow with these new opportunities.
