The Use of Force policy is designed to provide a set of guidelines for officers to use in the field. The policy is similar to that of the Sheriff's Department, and both organizations follow a Force Continuum. However, the Force Continuum is not set in stone, but instead serves as a guideline for officers to follow.

The primary expectation of officers is that they exercise objectivity and use common sense in each situation they face, relying on the Force Continuum as a general guideline. There is no set formula for determining the appropriate level of force to use in a given situation, as each situation is different and presents a unique set of circumstances that must be taken into account.

The policy states that department members are only justified in using deadly force if they reasonably believe, based on the totality of the circumstances, that such force is necessary. This means that officers must take into account all relevant factors and make a determination about the appropriate level of force to use based on the specific situation at hand.

While the policy cannot go into specific detail about the use of force, this is because doing so could potentially be used against officers by individuals with ill intent. As a result, we have a duty to keep our officers safe and cannot provide specific information that could potentially compromise their safety.

    Sincerely,
