INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the LSEMS Monthly Press Release for the month of August 2022. This month has been the center of both ups and downs, but ultimately we have learned and will take this with us to future-proof the department. There has been 20 new operational promotions and we have opened a new division, the Lifeguard Division. We hosted a successful Job Fair at the end of the month, letting us showcase the department, divisions, and employees, but the same day, the city was hit by an attack, leading to a power outage, leaving Pillbox and Paleto Medical Centers in critical condition. Luckily, no lives were lost.

EMT Intermediate Oj Wood

EMT Intermediate OJ Wood joined the LSEMS in early July 2022 and passed his EMT certification a few weeks later. During his time in the department, he has grown into a robust and trusted employee that has been given a lot of trust in his day-to-day operations. Within the Basic Life Support Division, he is a Senior Instructor, allowing him to train and support new divisional staff. He is also a part of the Training Division, Public Relations Division, and has passed his Mountain Rescue Certification. I am glad to have EMT Wood in the department and I know he will do great stuff in the future!

MEDICAL PRESCRIPTIONS
Related to a State-wide change in the 2022 San Andreas Penal Code, our procedures for handling medical prescriptions have been changed.

METHADONE
Los Santos Emergency Medical Services are permitted to prescribe Methadone to any citizen that may be suffering from addiction to substances like LSD, Cocaine, Heroin, Meth, Crack-Cocaine, and Ecstasy. The patient has to show a positive drug test taken by the LSEMS and show symptoms of such addiction.
All prescriptions are kept in an internal area, but the patient will receive a copy to keep and show as proof in case needed. Law Enforcement may also reach out to the LSEMS to request such proof in an active situation.
ATTACKS AGAINST THE STATE | POWER OUTAGE
On Saturday the 27th of August, the state of San Andreas suffered an attack against the Palmer Power Plant, leaving the whole state without power for a longer period of time. To this day, we are still suffering small outages as a direct consequence. Our medical centers were left dark, with just enough power to support patients on life-support and emergency surgeries. The State Government supported us, installing and refilling emergency generators allowing us to assist more patients and conduct emergency procedures.

Right after the attack, the LSEMS pager was hit, calling employees back on duty to deal with the situation. A team of firefighters and medical staff were sent to the site, cooperating with other instances on the scene, allowing the fire to be put out in a safe manner, and the staff was supervised for injuries and accidents.

Monday the 29th of August, the LSEMS went down to City Hall to hand out food, water, and radios for the citizens in need. The day prior, the Los Santos Police Department also conducted the same activity, allowing citizens to receive wood and water. Our staff spoke with many individuals, and most of them told us that their only source of food at this time was the pop-up stands from the different departments. Many were cold and struggled to stay at home due to no lights or heating, sending them out on the streets to seek shelter.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF EMS
Where do I start? The month of August 2022 has been a rollercoaster. On one side, we have opened a new division, received three new LSEMS Command members, hosted a Job Fair, and promoted multiple employees into full-time divisional command roles, but on the other side, we have worked side by side with other departments to keep the state and citizens safe after the attack made against the Palmer Power Plane. Our staff has been at the front line, risking their lives so others can stay safe.

I am personally proud to see how hard the medical staff has worked during these times, and the support and assistance they are given. I am also proud to look at other government departments. The communication, assistance, and care have been exceptional, and every single person has put in everything they got. Speaking with citizens of the state, struggling to find food and warmth has been hard, but being able to give something back to the community, has left us with a feeling of being helpful.

Moving forward, we will be looking into how to future-proof our facilities, including our medical care on all levels, so in case something like this ever happens again, we will find ourselves more prepared and ready to face the challenges.
CLOSING MESSAGE
Thank you very much for reading this month's press release. We are appreciating your support and are happy to see the engagement regarding these releases. Remember to take care of each other!

"The real road of compassion, that is, giving, helping, assistance and community service, is a road that can be set and declared as your life's purpose"
