  • Different departments of the state may have different jurisdictions and protocols but at the end of the day, we are all here to protect and serve the people of the state. On Saturday 16th July 2022 all of the state’s departments came together as one to help defend the city of Los Santos and its people. Around 7 PM on the day of the event an LSEMS unit relayed a massive explosion that occurred around the Weazel construction site on Calais Avenue. The LSSD, LSPD, SADOC, SAGOV and LSEMS all came together as one in a 107-member situation, with only 25 high-ranking members knowing that this was just a drill.

From the Sheriff’s Department, we had Assistant Sheriff Jon McCornish and Captain Carlile to thank for setting up the drill, here is what they had to say.
We mocked a training to keep everyone surprised, the moment we got the message of the drill starts, my team was out the door and mounted within 30 seconds. This to me showed that the drill would be of a pleasant outcome.

PD's involvement along with DOC and MD was very pleasant too. While we had 108 members of SD/PD/MD/DOC, the communication and fluid works were handled very well. We only suffered two accidental misfires from firearms, thankfully none of ours and no one was hit in the process.

In all, the drill proved to be an immense success, showing us that our units are indeed ready for large-scale escalation and routes of interception. I for one am beyond proud of the work that our units were able to put out during this stressful and overwhelming time.
At the exact time of this situation, the Los Santos Sheriff’s Department was beginning to get ready for an Advanced Training Session with the Special Enforcement Detail preparing for their own training. Within five minutes of the departmental call, we had over 15 vehicles leaving the station and heading directly to the city, with all deputies prepared and en route to the Code One location. SD's Special Enforcement Detail (SED) being one of the first to arrive on the scene alongside LSPD’s Metro Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), teamed up together valiantly and breached the two locations to find out the situation and update all the other units. We had them scouring from the bottom floor to the top as a gunship prepared and scouted the entire roof of the construction site as we had seen a massive active bomb threat. During the breach and clear we found two injured civilians which we escorted out of the building where LSEMS was prepared and waiting at the front alongside DOC’s CERT unit which secured the front of the site. At this time the rest of all standard patrol units had arrived on the scene and began to manage it, working together to evacuate and block off the entire surrounding area of the construction site.

As Operative Don Mozzarella began to negotiate with the individual they saw with the detonator, the rest of the SED and Metro SWAT began to clear the construction site to try and locate the bombs and more civilians that may be injured. We managed to locate two bomb threats where both PD and SD got Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) kits in order to try and disarm them both. While this was all happening Operative Mozzarella had seen the suspect drop unconscious. This was when they realised the detonator was not a “dead-man switch”, which was due to it not going off when the suspect fainted, allowing them to slowly move forward and clear the threat from the suspect. However, we still had active bombs in the entire area, Lead Operator Elias Ramos from SD’s side got into his gear and began to investigate the triple-stacked C4 bomb. All members involved were worried, but placing their duties first made sure that they were doing their part no matter what the job. Everyone present was important and did their role amazingly.

Here are a few words from Lead Operator Ramos about his thoughts throughout the entire situation:
The Code One situation was an interesting situation, we were not aware it was a drill and treated it like a live situation. SED deployed and headed into the city to assist LSPD with the situation. This is something we train for one to two times a week to ensure all our operators are up to the elite standard that matches the divisional expectations.

I am very proud of my team and how we handled the situation as a textbook. After containing the perimeter my unit worked up under Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) deployment and began defusing the bomb. It was a very serious situation as a lot of departments and divisions were on scene even if there were multiple misfires by DOC. I must highlight I am very proud of my team and they did a fantastic job during this high stress large scale situation.
With everyone rescued and the bomb disposed of all units made their way out of the site and began to pack up as we were informed by our higher-ranking members that this entire scenario was a drill. All members looked around confused but gave a sigh of relief. No matter what had happened throughout the day we all knew one thing for sure. Each and every department will always protect this city and its people.
