The San Andreas Judicial Branch is proud to officially announce the appointment of Daniel Carmello to Chief Public Defender from Interim Chief Public Defender. His dedication to training, leadership, and innovative thinking has already set a high standard for the Public Defender's Office and the branch as a whole.
In his first significant act in this role, then Interim Chief Public Defender Carmello organized an outstanding on-the-spot hiring event that will undoubtedly shape the future of the SAJB. He among completing cases, Carmello has also worked to update and recreate processes within the defense division. Closing Message
- "January has marked the close of 2024 and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Judicial Branch. Following a successful recruitment drive, we are building toward a future filled with opportunity and progress. The renewed faith in our judicial system is evident, as we’ve seen a record number of submissions this January, a testament to the trust placed in our branch by the citizens of the state.

As we move forward, we remain committed to fostering this confidence and improving our service to the public. To achieve this, we want to hear from you, the people we serve. How can the Judicial Branch better meet your needs? Feel free to use our Public Inquiries section to provide suggestions. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to create a system that works for everyone.
In our ongoing effort to enhance efficiency, we’ve made significant strides in reducing case wait times—from an average of nine months to just 0–4 months. Our goal is to further reduce this to 0–1 month by June. Thanks to initiatives like the on-the-spot system, some individuals have had their trials before serving any time. Bench trials have also provided a faster path to justice, allowing individuals to have their day in court within a month of incurring charges.
The road ahead is bright, and we look forward to continuing this momentum in the year to come."
