        Forensics

        Image
The LSEMS Forensics division is a branch of the LSEMS that deals specifically with the identification of biological and evidentiary samples.
The division acts twofold - working with law enforcement to test and identify samples collected from crime scenes, evidence and sometimes suspects, and assists our other divisions with any lab testing or lab work that needs to be done that is beyond basic lab work!
Furthermore, the division has recently been expanding into conducting autopsies! This somewhat spooky practice exists to determine the cause of death of the cadaver at hand, which ranges from infections to physical injuries and many in between. This can be done in conjunction with law enforcement to help with an investigation but can also be done at the request of the family or the state to give closure on a persons cause of death.
Forensic work is commonly a slower process, that requires extensive training and understanding of both book knowledge, as well as practice in the lab, leading to improvements and striving for perfection over time. Precision is key when performing lab work, and as such it genuinely cannot be rushed - which is where experience rushes in to cut down on the downtime between each step!
As such, a great candidate for a divisional member would be someone with a log of patience and attention to detail, as well as the ability to analyze abnormalities when necessary.

        Head of Forensics Lisa Winter
Lead Paramedic Lisa Winter wrote:My original reason for wanting to join Forensics was I was always interested in the more analytical and more scientific sides of medicine.
Forensics is nothing if not analytical and provides great opportunities to study things and grow your own and the division's knowledge.
Honestly, at first, I was not interested in the position. When Deputy Chief Lazoo approached me about taking over I was hesitant as I already had a lot on my plate. However, I decided to take a chance and agreed to take over the forensics division. I pretty much realized I had made the right choice and dove in head first starting to work on autopsies and updating everything and haven't looked back since.
It is always a good feeling when you conduct a test and prove that either A) law enforcement has the right guy or B) they don't. In either case, you are either getting justice for a victim or society OR you are stopping an innocent person from possibly being charged with something they did not do.
Someone should join forensics if they enjoy technical work and analyzing things. If they want to be able to help society just that little bit more than they already do by working at MD. Also if they have a strong stomach because, we are generally not dealing with the nicest of things when we do our work.

        BASIC MEDICAL INFORMATION
          Allergic Reactions
Spring has sprung and with that, a lot of summertime allergies begin to flourish. People can get allergic reactions for all sorts of reasons, from dust, pollen, animals, or medication.
There is a wide range of reactions that can occur from sneezing to anaphylaxis which is where your airway narrows and you struggle to breathe.
If you believe someone is going through an allergic reaction and suffering from anaphylaxis then do the following:
            • Assess the patient’s airway and breathing
            • If the patient is having an anaphylactic reaction:
              • Obtain an EpiPen from your ALS bag. An EpiPen is an injection device containing adrenaline.
              • Hold the tight and press the orange tip against the patient’s outer thigh until a click is heard, this will begin to administer the medication - epinephrine.
              • Slowly count to 3 before removing the EpiPen - tip: If you simply say "One San Andreas, Two San Andreas, Three San Andreas" you will be right on the mark!
              • Call 911 and wait for a medic.
              • If anaphylaxis continues and medics have not arrived then use another EpiPen after 5 minutes.
            BURGERSHOT TEAR GAS ATTACK
On the 10th of March 2024 at 2 am there was a call from SAGOV regarding a tear gas attack at Burgershot. Medics are very used to calls from Burgershot regarding mass tackling and shootings however a tear gas attack was a first. Consumers of Burgershot are used to getting sick from the meat instead of getting sick from other gas so this was a change.
When medics arrived there were several injuries patients who had been hurt by the tear gas. Their primary duties were to ensure that the tear gas had not affected them severely, to ensure their eyes were clean, and that they could breathe properly.
Once this was done the Firefighters moved in.
Before any efforts to remove the gas from the building began the building had to be sealed up with help from SAGOV's janitors to prevent citizen entry. Although the doors were quickly barricaded, a few workers attempted to come into work to try clock on however they were quickly asked to leave before they stepped inside and breathed in any further toxic fumes.
Once the doors were sealed a few firefighters went inside and began to turn on the kitchen vents to allow the gas to naturally be sucked out of the kitchen's vents and into the outside air where it can dissipate.
Once the vents were open a few of the side doors into the main Burgershot area where the tear gas attack occurred. Large fans were then placed down and allowed the gas to be blown out through the doors.
After about 15 minutes of blowing the air was breathable so the firefighters gave it one look over to ensure that there was no remaining gas. Due to the type of gas, it was impossible to determine if it was fully gone however the firefighters reported that their eyes didn't sting after.
Shortly after this SAGOV was informed that Burgershot was able to reopen.
You can see the Weazel News Video about the incident below.

                    Charges Information
There are multiple felonies and charges that will default the application status as DENIED regardless of references, letters of recommendation, or programs passed**:

                    • GF24 - Perjury

                    • SF03 - Involuntary or Vehicular Manslaughter

Additionally, Firearm Possession Charges are categorized as such:
                    • WM02 - Possession of a Class 1 Firearm - 2 months*
                    • WF03 - Possession of a Class 2 Firearm - 6 months*

Other Misdemeanors that are outside the charges mentioned above have a wait time of 2 months*

NOTE* The applicant may go through the San Andreas Department of Correction's Felon Reformation Program before applying and provide a reference for the recruitment personnel to review in order to shorten the wait time. Undergoing the Felon Reformation Program does not guarantee leniency, as applicants' criminal records are considered on a case-by-case basis, and on the other hand, we may be more lenient towards one-time offenders than repeat ones.
Additionally, employment with a clean track record within more lenient government-funded organizations, agencies, companies, and firms may contribute positively toward each individual case.

NOTE** Only in cases of charges that are 12 months or older, special reviews may take place for one-time offenders for charges that are otherwise entirely eliminatory. These reviews would require substantial feedback from another government-funded employer.

Should you wish to verify or get more information on the subject of criminal records and their interaction(s) with our recruitment procedures, contact ✉︎ Emilia Thalmer or ✉︎ Grant Adams.
