2. REQUEST INFORMATION
  • Detailed information of your request:
    • Dear LSPD,

As a journalist covering the recent news of the department's decision to effectively blacklist Herman Wolf, Editor-in-Chief of Weazel News, I am reaching out to request a comment from the LSPD on this matter.

Many in the community are concerned about the department's motivations for taking such a drastic step to restrict the freedoms of a well-known reporter and sour relations with the press in the process.

It is important for the public to understand the reasoning behind this decision, as it directly impacts the relationship between law enforcement and the media, which is crucial for transparency and accountability.

As such, I would appreciate if the LSPD could provide a statement on this matter, including any factors that may have led to the decision to blacklist Mr. Wolf and how it fits into the department's overall approach to working with the press.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

      Sincerely,

Los Santos Police Department
"TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE"

  • Re: REQUEST for STATEMENT [Weazel News]

The Los Santos Police Department created the public inquiry system as a means to increase its working relationship with the media, and by extension the communities, within the City of Los Santos and the State of San Andreas. The Media Relations Division of the Los Santos Police Department has continuously dedicated itself to answering any inquiry or request submitted by Herrman Wolff.

The Chief of Police has released a brief statement on this matter as a written reply to an inquiry when the decision to restrict the individual's access to the public inquiries system of the Los Santos Police Department and the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department, just as the Sheriff has. Both of which are statements available to be read by the public.

It is surprising that you determine that the law enforcement agencies within the state restricting the access of one sole individual is a matter that "sours the relationship of the press" when the individual in question continuously parked vehicles similar in looks to those of law enforcement that displayed license plates such as "DEFUNDPD" and "FUCKSWAT" directly in front of police stations as a representative of the press, which does not in any way beneficially or positively impact the relationship between law enforcement and the media.

Please find below a quote from the Chief of Police on this matter, addressing both the reasoning behind this decision and why it does not restrict freedom of speech in the slightest:
To ensure that our department's relationship with Weazel News remains intact, we kindly request that a different representative be sent to liaise with us for any future information requests. It's important to note that we will not engage in personal conversations with you, given your evident disdain for law enforcement. While your right to free speech is protected, we will be prohibiting you from using our services.

We do not find it humorous to see vehicles with license plates that bear derogatory terms such as "FUCKSWAT" displayed in public. In fact, we view this as a direct affront to the brave men and women of the Metropolitan Division who risk their lives daily, with some ultimately making the ultimate sacrifice.

To reiterate, we value our relationship with Weazel News and hope to maintain it. However, we will not respond to any of your requests for information in the future. We hope that you will understand the seriousness of this decision and the importance of treating all members of our community with respect and dignity.

To further address the concerns raised in the inquiry,
Many in the community are concerned about the department's motivations for taking such a drastic step to restrict the freedoms of a well-known reporter and sour relations with the press in the process.
Herrman Wolff was accordingly informed that any reporter may have been sent in his stead to submit an inquiry he wished to submit, but that the direct line of communication with him specifically had been restricted. This does not restrict the media in any way nor does it affect the relationship with the media, as any member of the press has been free to submit inquiries on behalf of Herrman Wolff. What it does do, is restrict the access of an individual with disdain for law enforcement.

The public and members of the press are able to reference the statement of the Chief of Police in a statement provided as a written reply to one of Herrman Wolff's inquiries, quoted above, which has been available to the public since its release, which is the transparency and accountability that we have and continue to strive to practice and maintain. Once more, this restriction does not impact the press in a manner as significant as which it is being made out to be, given that any member of the press has been able to submit inquiries on his behalf, should he wish to have proceeded with this.

I would like to conclude this by stating that the restriction imposed on Herrman Wolff is not intended to be a permanent restriction, and it will be reviewed by the Chief of Police in the near future.

    Respectfully,
